Abstract

Subject of this article is color and cinema relations. At the beginning of cinema, the films were not in color, but by the time, colorization methods were developed. The most common methods were by tinting and toning. Tinting a film involved running the desired footage through a bath of color dye. Toning was a chemical process that replaced the black silver image wth a different colored metallic compound. The most commonly used color tints were blue for night scenes, red for fire scenes, yellow for sunlight scenes, green for forest scenes. After developing Technicolor, color film era began and continues actually.
