Abstract
Bu araştırmanın amacı, hastanelerde uzun süre tedavi görmek zorunda kalan öğrencilerin okuldan ayrı kaldıkları süreçte akademik faaliyetlerine devam etmelerini sağlamak amacıyla faaliyet gösteren Hastane Sınıflarında görev alan yönetici ve öğretmenlerin görüşlerinden yola hastane sınıflarının mevcut durumunu ortaya koyarak hastane sınıflarında gerçekleştirilen çalışmalara yönelik öneriler sunmaktır.
Having to stay in the hospital for long periods of time due to their illnesses cause school-age children to stay away from education and training activities during the school-age period which is one of the periods in which children are introduced social roles and form their social identity through school, especially among their peers. Besides the therapeutic values of hospitals, deprivation from these activities during an extended hospitalisation period disclose the necessity to minimize the negative experiences and effects of hospitalisation and to ensure the school life keeping on without any interruption. In late 19th century, 'Hospital Schools' were established in hospitals to fulfil this need which was noticed in the form of home schooling in the first periods of their emergence in the world. These institutions, which once had the status of institutional directorate with the same name in the first years of their emergence in Turkey, were convert into 'Hospital Classrooms' with the education amendments act of 2012. The aim of this study is to reveal the current situation of the hospital classrooms and to develop proposals according to the findings by taking the opinions of the administrators and teachers working in the Hospital Classrooms, which is in service in order to ensure students who have to receive treatment in hospitals for a long time continue their academic activities whilst they are away from school. With the purpose of obtaining qualified and reliable results, qualitative research method, one of the scientific research methods, was used in this case study conducted. The obtained research data were collected from an semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher and were analysed through content analysis method. According to the results of the research, teachers experience various problems as to the existing institutional situation of hospital classrooms while conducting educational services in the hospital. Teachers are professionally happy and have professional satisfaction in hospital classrooms. However, they face some difficulties such as students' health conditions and low readiness level, too much circulation and managerial loneliness in the hospitals they are unfamiliar with, the physical structures of the bedside education areas that are not suitable for education, and the difficulties in obtaining materials. It is found that not only teachers but also administrators think that their administrative and educational experiences and job descriptions were not regulated in detail in the regulations. Moreover, the hospital classes' being outside the institution causes supervisory difficulties due to the in-house workload. Therefore, it has been concluded that, according to teachers and administrators, the hospital classrooms had better gain an autonomous identity and take on a self-measurable and sustainable structure, which will be a solution to many administrative and economic problems.
