Abstract

When the concept of space, which is the main object of architecture, the art of creating spaces throughout the human history, is examined it is remarkable that there are different approaches. Especially in different disciplines, the concept of space is expressed in different ways in terms of semantics. It is the right approach to take these conceptual differences as diversity and wealth. In this study, the definitions of the concept of space that is an object of architecture according to different perspectives are emphasized and the concepts of space and place are discussed. In general, it is accepted that the concept of space can be an abstract space, and the concept of space is a place that holds human experiences. When the concept of place is examined, it is seen that the concept of “home” puts the deepest meaning. The concept of “home” which has an important part in all civilizations and cultures throughout human history has etymologically important semantic values. Especially in the Anatolian architecture home has a deep meaning that makes it the subject of several phrases and proverbs.
