Türkçede “Duygu Besindir” Metaforu

Abstract

Emotions that reflect the inner world of man are born into the outer world through language and behaviors. From the neuroscientific point of view, emotion, which is basically seen as brain activity, is an indivisible part of language, culture and body, with the language-centered perspective of Hungarian linguist Zoltán Kövecses. In Kövecses’ metaphor study on English language of emotion, “nutrition”, which is shown as the source domain of some emotion metaphors, exhibits a complex structure in terms of expressing many emotions in Turkish. In this context, the interesting situation constitutes the subject of our study. In this study, the metaphor of “EMOTION IS NUTRITION”, which expresses many emotions in Turkish, will be discussed through idioms. It is aimed to propose a sample area for the studies of emotion metaphor, which is rare in Turkish, by tracing the concepts of "emotion-nutrition" through idioms. In line with this goal, the idioms used in the historical periods of Turkish and in today’s Turkey Turkish were examined and the metaphor of “EMOTION IS NUTRITION” was evaluated under eighteen sub-titles.
