Publication Adaptation, Reliability, and Validation of the Turkish Version of the Bad Sobernheim Stress Questionnaire-Deformity in Patients With Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis(Wolters Kluwer Health, 2023) Akçay, Burçin; Kuru Çolak, Tuǧba; APTİ, ADNANBackground:There is a limited number of disease-specific outcome measurement scales in Turkish, which can be used for individuals with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The aim of this study was to translate, adapt, and evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Bad Sobernheim Stress Questionnaire-Deformity (TRv.BSSQD) questionnaire in Turkish patients with AIS.Objective(s):After the translation and back-translation process, the TRv.BSSQD and Scoliosis Research Society-22 questionnaires were completed in face-to-face interviews with 49 patients with AIS. The TRv.BSSQD questionnaire was readministered to the same patients 2 weeks later to assess test-retest reliability. Results:The Cronbach alpha value calculated for internal reliability was 0.806. The intraclass correlation coefficient values of the items of the TRv.BSSQD ranged from 0.809 (P < 0.001) (question 8) to 0.955 (P < 0.001) (question 7). The test-retest correlation coefficient for the item-total score was 0.960 (P < 0.001). Validity analysis showed a significantly positive correlation between the TRv.BSSQD total score and pain, self-image, and mental subgroup and the total scores of the SRS-22r scale (P < 0.05).Conclusions:This patient-reported outcome instrument, the TRv.BSSQD, showed good internal consistency, good reliability with test-retest analysis, and construct validity, suggesting that it is an appropriate assessment instrument for Turkish patients with AIS.Publication Anxiolytic-Like Effects of Extremely Low Frequency Electric Field in Stressed Rats: Involvement of 5-HT2C Receptors(Taylor & Francis Ltd., 2022) Kantar, Deniz; Acun, Alev Duygu; AFŞAR, EBRU; Yargıçoğlu, PirayeBackground Possible modulatory effects of noninvasive brain stimulation have gained interest recently. In our study, the effect of low frequency electric fields (LF-EF) on stress-induced electrophysiological, behavioral changes and the possible involvement of serotonergic 5-HT2C receptors were investigated. Materials and methods A total of eight groups including the control groups were formed by applying LF-EF with or without a 5-HT2C receptor agonist to naive or acute stress exposed rats to demonstrate the effects of LF-EF. LF-EF administration at 10 kV/m was started 30 min before acute stress application and lasted for 1 h in total. Anxiety levels and social interaction were evaluated using the elevated plus maze test and social interaction test, respectively. Auditory evoked potentials (AEP) were recorded by using ascending loudness paradigms. Loudness dependence AEP (LDAEP) was calculated by using amplitude values to analyze serotonergic transmission. Serotonin and glucocorticoid levels were measured in the frontal cortex and hippocampus. Results It was observed that the applied LF-EF reduced the anxiety behavior, and attenuated the LDAEP responses in stress and/or 5-HT2C receptor agonist applied groups. In parallel, an increase in serotonin levels and a decrease in glucocorticoid levels were observed. However, LF-EF exposure was ineffective in impaired social interaction. Conclusions Our findings show that 10 kV/m LF-EF administration may modulate the neural network and physiological responses associated with mild acute stress. 5-HT2C receptor dependent functions are thought to play a role in the anxiolytic effect of LF-EF.Publication Arteriovenous Fistula Self-Care Behaviors in Patients Receiving Hemodialysis Treatment: Association With Health Literacy and Self-Care Agency(Sage Publications Ltd., 2022) Bülbül, Elif; Ayvaz, Meryem Yıldız; Yeni, Tuğba; TÜREN, SEVDA; Efil, SevdaBackground: Arteriovenous fistula-related self-care behaviors, self-care agency and health literacy are important for vascular access patency, which is vital in the continuation of hemodialysis treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the arteriovenous fistula-related self-care behaviors of patients receiving chronic hemodialysis treatment and the relationship between these behaviors and their health literacy and self-care agency levels. Methods: In this descriptive correlational study, the data were collected from 216 chronic hemodialysis patients. Results: The rate of the patients who had good self-care behaviors levels was 83.96%. The sociodemographic variables that were significantly related to AVF-related self-care behaviors were education, employment status and age. It was found that the patients who had had AVF for a longer time had better self-care behaviors regarding their management of symptoms and findings (p < 0.05). As the self-care agency of the patients (r = 0.612, p < 0.001) and their health literacy (r = 0.421, p < 0.001) increased, their AVF-related self-care behaviors also increased. Conclusion: Age, education status, health literacy and self-care agency were identified to affect AVF-related self-care behaviors.Publication Assessment of Nutritional Status, Body Composition and Blood Biochemical Parameters of Patients Following Sleeve Gastrectomy: 6 Months Follow Up(Elsevier, 2021) BATAR, NAZLI; Demir, Halime Pulat; Bayram, Hatice MerveBackground and aims: Today, Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) has recently become the most common bariatric procedure among various bariatric surgical procedures due to its advantages. The aim of this study is to investigate nutritional status, body composition and biochemical parameters following SG. Methods: This was a prospective study, the subjects were patients who underwent SG at a special obesity clinic in Istanbul, Turkey, between 01.05.2017 and 01.11.2017. The mean body mass index (BMI) of the participants was 42.15 +/- 4.84 kg/m(2) for men and 41.44 +/- 4.34 kg/m(2) for women, preoperatively. Nutritional status, some anthropometric measurements and blood sampling were taken at each visit. Data were collected and analyzed for the present study at the following periods: pre-operation (pre-op), 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after surgery. Results: A total of 47 SG patients (20 men, 27 women) were evaluated. The mean BMI was 30.23 +/- 3.56 kg/m(2) for men and 30.35 +/- 4.36 kg/m(2) for women after 6 months and the amount of excess weight loss (EWL) increased in the 3 months (p <.001). Mean energy, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B-1, niacin, vitamin B-12, folate, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, phosphorus and iodine were above the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) recommendations. A significant association was found between protein intake and fat free mass loss in both genders after SG at 6 months (p <.05). Conclusion: Nutrition deficiencies are common for patients after SG. Therefore, it is important to routinely monitor these patients with a professional team. (C) 2021 European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism. Published by Elsevier Ltd. Materials and Methods This was a retrospective cross-sectional study, and the subjects were patients who had surgery at a special obesity clinic, Bariatriklab, in Istanbul, Turkey, between February 01, 2014, and February 01, 2018.The mean age +/- standard deviation of the participants was 38.8 +/- 11.9 years. The mean body mass index (BMI) +/- standard deviation was 44.2 +/- 6.1 kg/m(2)preoperatively. The preoperative (pre-op) and 12-, 18-, and 24-month postoperative (post-op) weights and the frequency of interviews with dieticians for 2 years after the operation were collected, and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS ver. 23.0. Results A total of 247 laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) patients, 161 women (65.2%) and 86 men (34.8%), were evaluated in this study. As the frequency of dietician interviews increased in the first year, the amount of excess weight loss (EWL) increased in the second year (p < 0.01). In addition, as the frequency of dietician interviews increased in the second year, the amount of EWL in the second year decreased (p < 0.01). The frequency of dietician counseling among participants who did not experience weight loss between 12 and 24 months was significantly higher than that among those who experienced weight loss (p < 0.05). Conclusion It should not be forgotten that bariatric surgery requires teamwork, and patients should be cared for with an interdisciplinary approach. Dieticians play an important role in changing nutritional habits and making them sustainable.Publication Assessment of the Quality and Reliability of Information on Nutrition After Bariatric Surgery on YouTube(Springer, 2020) BATAR, NAZLI; Yıldız, Nida; Güçlü, Duygu; SEVDİN, SEZEN; KERMEN, SEDABackground YouTube (TM) is a platform that many people, including patients, use to access health information. Recent studies have revealed that videos on YouTube (TM) are misleading or that medical videos may not contain appropriate information. This study aimed to assess the quality and reliability of videos on nutrition after bariatric surgery. Materials and Methods The keywords "after bariatric surgery diet" and "weight loss surgery postop diet" were used, and the first 100 videos for each keyword on YouTube (TM) were analyzed by considering the source, duration, content, and the number of likes of the video. The popularity of the video was calculated using the video power index (VPI) and view rate. The educational quality of the videos was evaluated using the DISCERN score, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) score, the Global Quality Score (GQS), the usefulness score, and a novel postoperation nutrition score (PONS). Results One hundred fourteen patients were included in the study. The mean duration and number of views were 12.51 min and 87,558.46, respectively. The DISCERN score, JAMA score, GQS, and usefulness score of the physicians or dietician-based videos were significantly higher than those of the patient-based videos (p < 0.001). Positive correlations were found between the VPI and view ratio, as well as between the duration and number of likes. Additionally, the DISCERN score was significant correlated with the duration and number of likes. Significantly positive correlations were found between the usefulness score and duration, usefulness score and number of likes, and PONS and duration (p < 0.01). Conclusions Informational videos on nutrition after bariatric surgery on YouTube (TM) are of low quality. Although the videos uploaded by physicians and dieticians have higher quality, only a few are available. Additionally, patients prefer to watch low-quality videos.Publication Assessment of the Risk of Pressure Ulcer During the Perioperative Period: Adaptation of the Munro Scale to Turkish(Elsevier Science Ltd., 2021) GÜL, ASİYE; Şengül, Tuba; Yavuz, Hafize ÖzgeAim of the study: This study was conducted to adapt the Munro Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment Scale (Munro Scale) to Turkish and to test its validity and reliability. Materials and methods: In the methodological study, the data were collected using the patient identification form, the Braden Scale, and the Munro Scale. A total of 188 patients were diagnosed for the risk of preoperative and intraoperative pressure ulcer, and then re-evaluated in the recovery room and in their bed. Results: The study group consisted of 81 (43.1%) males and 107 (56.9%) females with a mean age of 51.98 ± 16.87. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin sampling adequacy test was 0.588 and the Bartlett's test was 430.471. The results of goodness of fit indices were not as expected value in the confirmatory factor analysis. In the exploratory factor analysis, it was determined that the factor loadings of the Munro Scale varied between 0.336 and 0.873 and explained 62% of the total variance. In the parallel-form method performed for the reliability of the scale, it was observed that there was a weak and negative correlation between the total scores of the Munro Scale and Braden Scales before the surgery and a negative and moderate correlation between the total scores after the surgery. The total Cronbach's alpha value was found to be 0.504. In the reliability analysis of the scale, interrater correlation coefficients were found to be 0.865-0.998.Publication Burnout Levels and Care Behaviours in Intensive Care Nurses: A Cross-Sectional, Multicentre Study(Elsevier Sci Ltd., 2022) Efil, Sevda; TÜREN, SEVDA; Ayvaz, Meryem Yıldız; Bülbül, Elif; Yeni, TuğbaObjective: To examine the relation between burnout levels and caring behaviours in intensive care nurses in Turkey, and the affecting factors. Research methodology/design: The research was conducted as a descriptive, cross-sectional and multi-centred study. Setting: In this study, an online questionnaire was applied in April and May 2021, using Google Form. A total of 460 intensive vare nurses responded to the questionnaire. Main outcome measures: Burnout was assessed with the Maslach Burnout Inventory, and care behaviours with the Caring Behaviours Inventory-24. Results: The nurses reported a high level of emotional exhaustion (73.9%) and depersonalization (52.2%), and a medium level of personal accomplishment (40%). The nurses' levels of perception of care quality were high (5.4 +/- 0.6). It was found that their highest score on the subdimensions was on knowledge and skills (5.6 +/- 0.5), and the lowest was on connectedness (5.2 +/- 0.7). There was a very weak, respectively weak correlation, between nurses' emotional exhaustion (r = -0.1), respectively depersonalization (r = -0.2), and poor care behaviours. There was a strong correlation between low personal accomplishment scores and poor care behaviours (r = 0.8). It was found that the mean scores of the nurses' exhaustion and care behaviours varied according to many descriptive characteristics, such as education, age, professional experience, the unit where they worked, communication difficulties, living conditions and whether they had chosen nursing willingly. Conclusions: It appears that the level of personal accomplishment, is the only subscale reflecting risk of burnout, that strongly correlates with care behaviour.Publication Comparison of Kinesio Taping, Trigger Point Injection, and Neural Therapy in the Treatment of Acute Myofascial Pain Syndrome: A Randomized Controlled Study(Kare Publishing, 2023) Ay, Saime; Tur, Birkan Sonel; Karakaş, Merve; Gökmen, Derya; ALTINBİLEK, TURGAY; Evcik, DenizObjectives: Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a regional painful soft-tissue disorder, characterized by trigger points (TrPs) and taut bands in the muscles. In this study, we aimed to compare the effectiveness of kinesio taping (KT), TrPs injection, and neural therapy (NT) on pain and disability in acute MPS.Methods: 104 patients with MPS in the cervical region were allocated into three groups. Group 1 (n=35) were treated with KT, Group 2 (n=35) received local anesthetic (LA) (lidocaine of 0.5%) TrPs injection, and Group 3 (n=34) received NT with the same LA solution. Patients were assessed by means of pain, pressure pain threshold (PPT), and disability. Pain severity was measured by Visual Analog Scale. The neck pain disability scale was used for assessing disability. PPT was measured by using an algometer. Measurements were taken before and after treatment of 3(rd) and 7(th) days. Results: There were improvements on pain and disability in all groups at the end of treatments at 3(rd) day and during follow-up period (p<0.001) and no differences were found between the groups. There was significant difference in PPT values in TrPs injection and NT groups in comparisons between all time periods, however, the change, depending on time in the KT group, was not statistically significant. Conclusion: The results of this study show that all these three treatment methods found to be effective on pain relief and disability in acute MPS. In terms of PPT, injection treatments seem to be superior than KT.Publication Comparison of Motor Proficiency and Functional Ambulation in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy With Healthy Peers(Taylor & Francis Ltd., 2020) Yıldız, Şulenur; Şahin, Sedef; Bulut, Numan; Tunca Yılmaz, Öznur; Karaduman, Aynur Ayşe; AKEL, BURCU SEMİNAims:The study was aimed to investigate the difference between boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and healthy peers in terms of gross and fine motor proficiency, and determine the relationship between motor proficiency and ambulation. Methods:A total of 24 boys with DMD and 22 healthy peers were evaluated. Demographics and physical characteristics were recorded. The Bruininks Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency-Short Form (BOTMP-SF) was administered to evaluate gross and fine motor proficiency in both groups. The 6-minute walk test (6MWT) was performed to evaluate functional walking capacity and North Star Ambulatory Assessment (NSAA) was used to determine ambulatory status of boys with DMD. Results:The gross motor proficiency score was significantly lower in boys with DMD (p = 0.001). No difference was found between the groups in terms of fine motor proficiency (p = 0.962). The gross motor function of BOTMP-SF was significantly related to 6MWT distance (r = 0.696,p = 0.001) and NSAA (r = 0.738,p = 0.001). No relationship was found between BOTMP-SF fine motor proficiency and 6MWT distance (r = 0.210,p = 0.361), and NSAA (r= -0.020,p = 0.928). There were significant correlations between running speed and agility with 6MWT distance (r = 0.585,p = 0.005) and NSAA (r = 0.650,p = 0.056). Conclusions:Boys with DMD were more affected in aspects of gross motor proficiency than healthy peers, while fine motor proficiency were found same. The gross motor proficiency was found more related to the level of ambulation.Publication COVID-19 Fear, Vaccination Hesitancy, and Vaccination Status in Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women in Turkey(Afr J Reprod Health, 2023) MİRAL, MUKADDES TURAN; Turgut, Nurgül; Güldür, Ayşe; Güloğlu, Zübeyde E.; Mamuk, RojjinThis study aimed to determine the level of COVID-19 fear, vaccination, and vaccination hesitancy as well as the affecting factors in pregnant and breastfeeding women who participated in an online prenatal education in Turkey. Criterion related validity analysis showed medium correlations between WORQ and Beck Depression Inventory (p < 0.001), however there were no statistical significant differences regarding known group parameters (p > 0.05).ConclusionsIn this study, the cross-cultural adaptation, and validity and reliability of WORQ-Turkish self-reported version were examined and the results indicated that WORQ-Turkish was a valid and reliable scale for analyzing vocational rehabilitation process of people with disabilities.Publication Cultural Beliefs of Turkish Women for Breast Cancer and Screening(SAGE Publications Inc., 2021) Tosun, Hale; Andsoy, Işıl Işık; GÜL, ASİYEIntroduction: Breast cancer is an important health problem and early diagnosis is important in its treatment. Women's approach and cultural beliefs are effective in ensuring early diagnosis. This study examined psychometric properties of the Ferrans Cultural Beliefs Scale and assessed cultural beliefs on breast cancer and screening programs among Turkish women. Method: The study was performed in a descriptive and cross-sectional design with 420 women using the Ferrans Cultural Beliefs Scale that is considered reliable and valid in Turkey. Results: The mean total score of the Ferrans Cultural Beliefs Scale was 3.24 +/- 3.16. The highest "yes" responses were for the statement "If breast cancer is treated correctly, it can be cured" (n = 387, 92.1%). Discussion: This study, which is the first in Turkey, highlights the importance of measuring the effects of Turkish healthy women's cultural beliefs in breast cancer and screening for early diagnosis. Determining women's cultural beliefs will make known the attitudes and behaviors toward breast cancer, so that the nurse will provide sensitive and effective nursing care, develop nursing knowledge, and integrate this knowledge with clinical practice.Publication Determination of Factors Affecting Time in Therapeutic Range in Patients on Warfarin Therapy(Sage Publications Inc., 2023) TÜREN, SEVDA; Türen, SelahattinBackground The effectiveness and safety of warfarin depend on maintaining an international normalized ratio (INR) within the therapeutic range. Time in Therapeutic Range (TTR) is defined as the percentage of time a patient's INR is within the therapeutic range. Objective We sought to determine the factors affecting good TTR in patients on warfarin therapy. Methods This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in a single tertiary care center. Good anticoagulation control was defined as TTR >= 65%. Results The study population consisted of 518 patients. The mean age was 57.6 +/- 12.3 (19-87) and 54.4% of the patients were female. 47.5% patients achieved good anticoagulation control (TTR >= 65%). The mean Medication Adherence Report Scale (MARS) score was significantly higher in patients with good TTR (23.5 +/- 1.9 vs. 22.8 +/- 2.1, p = .002). Only 40.2% of the patients received education on warfarin. In multivariable analyses, the duration of warfarin therapy >10 years (OR: 2.27, 95% CI: 1.34-3.84, p = .002) and MARS score (OR: 1.22, 95% CI: 1.09-1.35, p < .001) were found to be the independent predictors of the good anticoagulation control. Conclusion Duration of warfarin therapy >10 years and MARS score were the independent predictors of good anticoagulation control.Publication The Determination of Patient Learning Needs After Day Surgery: A Cross-Sectional Study(Elsevier, 2022) Üstündağ, Hülya; GÜL, ASİYE; Özkaya, BirgülPurpose: This study was conducted to investigate the care perception and learning needs of patients undergoing day surgery. Design: A descriptive and cross-sectional model was used. Methods: The study was conducted with 234 patients who underwent day surgery in a general surgery clinic of a university hospital. Data were collected using a sociodemographic characteristics form, the Patient Perception of Hospital Experience with Nursing Scale (PPHEN) and the Patient Learning Needs Scale (PLNS). Findings: The PPHEN mean score was 67.99 ± 11.98 and the PLNS total score was 211.15 ± 38.49. The subscales showed that the highest scores were 38.47 ± 6.93 for activities of life, while the lowest score was 20.60 ± 4.23 for feelings related to condition. There was a statistically significant negative correlation in the PPHEN and PLNS subscales in terms of medications, activities of living, treatment, and complications. There was no statistically significant relationship between the demographic data of the patients (age, gender, and educational status). Conclusions: This study demonstrated that patients had high information needs and greater concerns, particularly about "activities of life." Nurses should be aware of the importance of identifying high learning needs to increase the level of satisfaction with nursing care in day surgery patients.Publication Determination of Somatotypes of Children With Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis and Its Relationship With Scoliosis(Bayrakol Medical Publisher, 2023) APTİ, ADNAN; Çolak, Tuğba Kuru; Akçay, Burçin; Çolak, İlkerAim: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine. In adolescence, body morphology can change for various reasons such as genetics, nutrition, and level of physical activity. It has been reported that there are differences in the normal physical growth pattern in children with AIS, which may be due to hormonal changes. The relationship between body morphology and scoliosis is questionable because of the differences that scoliosis creates in the spinal structure. The aim of this study was to define the somatotype characteristics of children with AIS and compare the somatotypes with healthy, age and sex-matched controls.Material and Methods: A retrospective evaluation was performed on 38 children with AIS and 27 age-matched healthy control subjects. Cobb angles and angle of trunk rotation (ATR) values were used to determine scoliosis and trunk gibbosity. Cobb angles were measured on standing anterior-posterior radiographs and the ATR using Adam's forward bending test with a scoliometer. Somatotypes were defined according to the Heath-Carter method and body morphology was categorized into three different components: endomorphy, mesomorphy, and ectomorphy. Results: Ectomorphy was the dominant type in the AIS group, and endomorphy was the dominant type in the control group. The endomorphic somatotype in individuals with scoliosis was determined at a statistically significantly lower rate than in the control group (p=0.048). There was a moderate negative correlation (p=0.001, r=-0.466) between the Cobb angle and the values of the endomorphy component, and between the ATR and the endomorphy values (p=0.010, r=-0.318).Discussion: The lower rate of endomorphic somatotype was an evident difference in children with scoliosis. These differences may cause problems in the growth and development of the spine and the skeletal structures attached to the spine during adolescence when rapid growth and development occur. Whether this difference is related to nutrition, genetic and hormonal factors, or psychosocial factors remains to be determined.Publication Determination of the Connection Between the Asthma Patients and Mycobiota in the Environment They Live in(Selçuk Üniversitesi Mantarcılık Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi Müdürlüğü, 2023) KORKMAZ, ARAS FAHRETTİN; Çolakoğlu, Günay Tülay; Karaltı, İskenderIn the 12-month period between February 2014 and January 2015, this study was carried out in the homes of 55 asthma patients living in 14 different regions of Istanbul (Ataşehir, Bulgurlu, Fikirtepe, Hasanpaşa, İçerenköy, Moda, Göztepe, Çekmeköy, Ümraniye, Altayçeşme Neighborhood, Esenkent Neighborhood, Feyzullah Neighborhood, Gülsuyu Neighborhood, Yalı Neighborhood). Air ideal (Biomerieux, France) air vacuuming device was used to determine the fungal flora in the domestic ambient air of the relevant patients. In this context, in order to prevent bacterial growth, Streptomycin antibiotic was added and Rose Bengali potato dextrose agar was placed in the slot of the device and the air filter of the device was installed. The device, which was placed at a height of 75-85 cm from the ground, was operated for 3-5 minutes and 200 liters of domestic ambient air was vacuumed. A total of 1071 microfungi colonies isolated in the study were found to belong to a total of 10 genuses and 23 species. The obtained genera are Alternaria (Arıküfü), Aspergillus (Asper), Aureobasidium (Karamaya), Chaetomium (Günoku), Cladosporium (Havaküfü), Fusarium (Solduran), Mucor (Ekmekküfü), Paecilomyces (Günküfü), Penicillium (Penisilyum) and Rhizopus (Karaküf). Among them, the most isolated genera were Aspergillus, Penicillium, Cladosporium, Alternaria and Fusarium. The most isolated species in this study were Aspergillus niger (Kara asper), Fusarium poae (Buğday solduran), Alternaria alternata (Astımküfü), Cladosporium cladosporioides (Karakökküfü), Penicillium brevicompactum (Sağlam penisilyum), Cladosporium macrocarpum (İrikurutan), Cladosporium sphaerospermum (Güllekurutan) and Penicillium glabrum (Bol penisilyum). In the 12-month period, the lowest microfungi concentration was observed in January and the highest microfungi concentration was observed in May. During the study, the temperature of the sample areas were measured with a thermometer and the humidity rates were measured with a hygrometer. In this study, the types of allergen microfungus that cause the onset of asthma disease or the progression of the degree of disease are stated. These were determined as Alternaria alternariae (Fıstık küfü), Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus fumigatus (Kıran asper), Aspergillus niger, Aureobasidium pullulans (Karamaya), Chaetomium globosum (Top günoku), Cladosporium cladosporioides, Cladosporium herbarum (Yaygınkurutan), Cladosporium sphaerospermum, Penicillium chrysogenum (Penisilyum), Penicillium glabrum.Publication Determining the Relationship Between the Impairment of Selective Voluntary Motor Control and Gait Deviations in Children With Cerebral Palsy Using Simple Video-Based Analyses(Elsevier Ireland Ltd., 2021) Sardogan, Cansu; Muammer, Rasmi; AKALAN, NAZİF EKİN; Sert, Rukiye; Bilgili, FuatBackground: The impairment of selective voluntary motor control (SVMC) in children with cerebral palsy (CP) has been shown to correlate with their gait characteristics using complex 3D gait analysis systems (3DGA); however, this relationship has not been investigated using simple video-based observational gait analysis (VBOGA). The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between VBOGA and SVMC of the lower extremities in children with CP. Methods: Forty-two CP children 10.9 +/- 5.7 years old with Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) levels I-III participated in the study. Their gait characteristics were assessed using the Edinburgh Visual Gait Score (EVGS), and selective voluntary motor control was tested using the Selective Control Assessment of the Lower Extremity (SCALE). Spearman's rho correlation test with Cohen's classification were used in the statistical analyses. Results: The GMFCS levels (r = 0.604, p < 0.001), foot clearance (r = -0.584. p < 0.001), and maximum ankle dorsiflexion (r = -0.567, p < 0.001) during the swing phase had strong correlations with total SCALE scores. There was also a moderate correlation between total SCALE scores and total EVGS (r = -0.494, p < 0.001), knee extension in the terminal swing phase (r = -0.353, p < 0.001), peak sagittal trunk position (r = -0.316, p < 0.005), and maximum lateral shift (r = -0.37, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Impaired lower extremity SVMC was noticeably related to the foot and ankle movements in the swing phase and initial stance during walking as well as the total EVGS scores and sagittal and frontal trunk movements. The SCALE correlations with VBOGA were similar those observed in the complex 3DGA in the literature; therefore, we suggest that SVMC impairment of gait could be evaluated using simple VBOGA. These findings may help to tailor physical therapy programs for CP children to increase their motor control and walking quality.Publication Does Increased Femoral Anteversion Can Cause Hip Abductor Muscle Weakness?(MDPI, 2023) APTİ, ADNAN; AKALAN, NAZİF EKİNBackground: Increased femoral anteversion (IFA) causes functional problems (i.e., tripping, frequently falling, and fatigue) by affecting the pelvis and lower extremity biomechanics. In the frontal plane, increased contralateral pelvic drop and ipsilateral hip adduction, which are mainly considered deteriorated hip abductor muscle mechanisms, are associated with hip and knee injuries. Aims: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of femoral anteversion on hip abductor weakness and frontal plane pelvis-hip biomechanics during walking. Methods: The study included nine subjects with increased femoral anteversion and a control group of eleven subjects. Maximum isometric voluntary contraction (MIVC) values of the hip abductor muscles were measured with a handheld dynamometer. Three-dimensional gait analysis was performed for kinetic, kinematic, and temporo-spatial gait parameters. Non-parametric tests were used for statistical analysis (p < 0.05). Results: There was no significant difference found between the MIVC values of the IFA and control groups (p = 0.14). Moreover, no significant difference was determined between the ipsilateral peak hip adduction (p = 0.088) and contralateral pelvic drop (p = 0.149) in the stance phase. Additionally, there was no correlation between the peak hip adduction angle in the stance phase and normalized MIVC values in the IFA group (r = -0.198, p = 0.44), or in the control group (r = -0.174, p = 0.55). The deviations of pelvic rotation (p = 0.022), hip internal rotation (p = 0.003), and internal foot progression (p = 0.022), were found to be higher in the IFA group than in the controls. Conclusions: IFA may not be associated with hip abductor muscle weakness, and it may not lead to the hip adduction and pelvic depression that can be seen in hip abductor weakness. Increased pelvic rotation and internal hip rotation during walking might be considered as a compensation for the femoral head-acetabulum alignment mechanism in the frontal plane.Publication The Effect of Fruit Consumption Time on Glucose Regulation in Pregnancy With Gestational Diabetes(Pontificia Universidade Catolica Campinas, 2023) NAS, SEVİL; Yılmaz, Hande ÖngünObjectiveThis study aims to determine the effect of fruit consumption time on blood glucose regulation in pregnant women with gestational diabetes.MethodsThe study was carried out with 64 volunteer participants diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Participants who were directed to the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics were divided into two groups according to the order of application; Group 1 was included in the nutrition treatment program for a week, consuming fruit for the main meal and Group 2 for the snack. During this process, the participants were applied a personalized nutrition plan that was adjusted equally for macronutrients of all meals containing isocaloric 3 main and 4 snacks. In this process, blood glucose values were measured six times a day by the participants and the blood glucose results of both groups before starting the nutrition therapy and on the seventh day after starting the medical nutrition therapy were compared.ResultsThe mean age of the women participating in the study was 33.50 +/- 4.95 years and 32.28 +/- 5.18 years for the 1st and 2nd groups, respectively, and the groups were similar in terms of anthropometric measurements. The post-diet average of postprandial blood glucose levels in the morning within each group dropped from 180mg/d to 115mg/dL (p<0,001) for Group 1 and from 185mg/dL to 110mg/dL (p<0,001) for Group 2. There was a decrease in the fasting plasma glucose and postprandial blood glucose levels measured in the morning, noon and evening before and after the medical nutrition therapy of the groups, but no statistically significant difference was found between the groups (p>0.05). All participants on the gestational diabetes diet had normal blood sugar levels without the need for insulin. A statistically significant decrease was observed in the postprandial blood glucose-fasting plasma glucose difference levels of the pregnant women in the group that consumed fruit for snacks (Group 2) on the seventh day of the study (p<0,001). There was no significant difference in the pre-diet and post-diet morning fasting plasma glucose values of both groups (p>0,05).ConclusionThis study found that medical nutrition therapy in pregnant women with gestational diabetes led to a decrease in blood glucose levels, but consuming fruits as a snack or at the main meal did not make a significant difference on fasting plasma glucose and postprandial blood glucose. It was concluded that the type and amount of carbohydrates consumed daily in gestational diabetes are determinative on blood glucose level.
