The developments in the field of the internet and the point that web technology has reached has created radical changes in the way of life of today's individuals. Businesses also benefit from the opportunities that technology had provided them in how they reach their consumers. Businesses are using these technologies more and more every day to reach consumers who are constantly open to interaction thanks to technological tools. This is especially true in the service sector and e-commerce sites, where the effects of the digital transformation in banking are seen more clearly. Banks have started to use artificial intelligence-based robots in the customer relations process. In the present study, the general development of artificial intelligence-based chatbots was examined and their use in the rapidly digitalizing banking field was discussed. In this context, the approaches of innovative consumers to chatbot applications of banks were evaluated. The research was carried out on 407 people who were reached by convenience sampling method, using a questionnaire as a data collection method. However, since 13 people stated that they do not use internet or mobile banking, the analyzes were carried out on the answers of 394 participants. A correlation analysis was conducted to reveal whether the innovativeness level of consumers is related to their trust in chatbot applications. The research results show that there is no significant relationship between the "competence dimension" (r=0.06; p<0,01) and "benevolence dimension" (r= 0.06; p<0,01) of consumer trust towards chatbot applications and consumer innovativeness; however, study revealed that there is a significant relationship between the "integrity dimension" (r=0.17; p<0,01) of trust and consumer innovativeness.Publication Open Access From Social Media to Metaverse: Evaluation of Meta Avatars Store in The Context of Avatars, Self-Presentation and Luxury Brand(TRT, 2023) ŞİŞMAN, ÖZGE ÖZKÖK; BİLGİCİ, CERENMeta Corporation announced in June 2022 that it was launching the Meta Avatars Store for users who want to adorn their avatars with luxury brands such as Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne, as well as a selection of free outfits available. It is a traumatic event that psychologically affects all segments of society. However, particularly the young and disadvantaged in a society like minorities, refugees and disabled people may face even harsher problems. The youngest generation to witness this traumatic event is generation Z. Individuals of this generation came to the world in a period when communication technologies have experienced tremendous growth and progress, thus making them carry characteristics which are very different from other generations. Since this generation is still very young, it is challenging to obtain academic data on them. Studies on this generation are just being conducted, and the number of scientific studies in this field is still minimal. However, what stands out in the already existing research is that social media is an integral part of their lives. While there are many studies on social media usage habits and the effects of these during the pandemic, the research done on minorities in society during this period does also not stand out in the literature. Therefore, this study focuses on an even smaller fraction of the already tiny fraction (0,2%) of non-Muslim minorities in Turkey; the Syriac generation Z in Turkey. Using the method of online surveys, this study demonstrated that all of the surveyed members of the Syriac generation Z, in Turkey connect to the internet, use social media and follow COVID-19 related news on social media on a daily basis. The study also revealed that they spend more time on social media than before COVID-19 and frequently communicate with their friends on social media. Furthermore, this study found that during the COVID-19 period, the surveyed members of the Syriac generation Z were more anxious and generally preferred spending time with their hobbies as well as communicating with their friends and families as a method of coping with their concerns. Also, half of the surveyed members stated that social media helped relieve their concerns during this period.Publication Open Access Realism as a Tool to Develop Authenticity: Orientalism in Mustang(Gümüşhane Üni̇versi̇tesi̇, 2020) KOÇER, ZEYNEPThis study analyzes Deniz Gamze Ergüven’s 2015 film Mustang in terms of the ways in which the film reconstructs orientalist imagery with its narrative, camerawork and editing. Mustang was well received in the western mainstream media. It was praised for being a feminist film with a female point of view that draws attention to the oppression of women in Turkey. Yet, it’s reception was quite different in Turkey. This study explores film’s reception in the western media, the rhetoric of Ergüven on the realism aspect of the film and demonstrates the similarities between Ergüven’s compositions and 19th century Orientalist paintings that depict the image of the odalisque. Its methodology is textual and discourse analysis. The theoretical framework regarding Orientalism is based on Edward Said’s canonic work, Orientalism and Linda Nochlin’s influential essay, The Imaginary Orient.Publication Restricted Reimagining the Cultural Impact of Neoliberalism: An Analysis of Istanbul and Liverpool Biennials(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd., 2022) GENÇ, EDA AYLİN; Kennedy-Schtyk, Beccy; Miles, StevenBiennials are one of the most important stagers of contemporary art practices serving as spaces of reflexivity for artistic production, compressing a glocal sphere, offering a culturally inclusive debate. They play a key role in the global transformation of cultural production in a neoliberal age. Based on empirical data collected from the 15th Istanbul and 10th Liverpool biennials, this paper seeks to interrogate the role they play in the relationship between the cultural production and consumption of the arts. The paper presents an alternative perspective from which we can begin to better understand the cultural impact of neoliberalism. It is suggested, on this basis, that as glocal spaces of culture, biennials can generate culturally inclusive debates and participatory constellations offering a more democratic access to cultural participation. They are in this sense a discursive space and facilitate the opening-up of a critical space in which cultural policy can offer a more sophisticated means of critiquing the impact of neoliberalism on the arts world.Publication Open Access Respect and Struggles for Recognition: Kant and Honneth(Consejo Superior Investigaciones Cientificas, 2024) SAKIZLI, SELDA SALMANENG Abstract: Philosophers and scholars often overlook Kant's foundational contribution to the concept of recognition, yet it proves challenging to develop a comprehensive theory without integrating Kantian moral philosophy, particularly his conceptualization of respect. In this regard, I draw upon the insights of contemporary philosopher Axel Honneth, who ambivalently acknowledges the influence of Kant's moral philosophy in shaping the conceptualization of the struggle for recognition. Unlike Honneth, I claim unequivocally, that any theory for the struggle for recognition needs explicit Kantian grounds.Publication Open Access Violence, Wars, and the Possibility of Ethical Life in an Apocalypse: A Kantian Reading of The Walking Dead(De Gruyter, 2021) SAKIZLI, SELDA SALMANThe Walking Dead is a popular TV series depicting a catastrophic and violent world. After a pandemic that turns humans into zombies, we witness the collapse of civilization with all its institutions, the depletion of the resources, and the struggle to build a new world in the middle of the wars between surviving groups. It illustrates a world of literal and metaphorical homo homini lupus. Some people choose sheer survival, and others try to build a moral, civil world. In this article, I propose a reading of this series from a Kantian perspective by employing his interrelated ideas on history, ethics, and politics. I claim that The Walking Dead represents the state of nature and the violence it contains, and illustrates the course of history toward a civil society as defined by Kant.
