Abstract
Specific learning disorder implies disorders where difficulties or underachievements in gaining, and application of academic skills such as reading, writing, understanding spoken or written language and mathematical skills are dominant in individuals with normal or supra-normal intellectual faculties. This disorder is neurodevelopmental in nature with an incidence of 5-14% in school age children and 4% in adulthood In stud-ies on specific learninig disorder, biologic, genetic, social, and psychologic factors, and impairment in cerebral anatomy, and functions have been reported as etiologic fac-tors. In DSM 5, specific learninig disorder has been dealt in three headings as “Reading Disorder (dyslexia), Disorder of Written Expression (Dysgraphia)and Mathematical Disorder (dyscalculia)” The SLD is generally started to be recognized at the beginning of school age with apparent manifestations of difficultie both in reading and writing. However these individuals experience some difficulties during preschool age in achievement of language, attentional skills, motor development, social, and emo-tional areas. Accurate assessment, and management of these manifestations by families, and experts carry importance in initiation of diagnostic, and appropriate therapeutic procedures.
