Abstract

Magazines, which are one of the printed publication products, reach their target groups by means of visual codes on their cover pages and they create interaction by this means. The interaction that has been created is a type of interaction that can be handled within the frame of visual interaction. As is known, the visual interaction brings all the visual codes existing on the cover page and it provides a type of communication that presents the codes in a simple and understandable way. Our study focuses on the variations and changes of visual design of the first patented Turkish women?s magazine, Elele, overtime. The aim of the cover pages of the magazine in question is to have the signs, which constitute the visual, and linguistic messages are analyses in terms of design. Therefore, it is analysed on how the cover pages of the said magazine changes in parallel with the time passing and with the target group for this purpose, and whether the change of the cover page also caused meaning and thematic changes. In our study, in order to make a big research for analysing the visual message, an analysis has been made on ?how? the said massages have been designed so that the receiver understands the said messages and become sensible. Inspired by the basic concepts and principles of the semiology, a selective method has been used for this purpose. Our purpose in this study is to analyse the change of the cover page of Elele magazine in parallel with time passing and with the change of target group, and also analyse by which visual and linguistic signs these changes have been performed in terms of analysis. The purpose also was to analyse what kind of ? identity? was given to the said cover page of Elele magazine by means of the said changes by means of the above-mentioned selective method, and what ?difference? it has made with the other magazines.
