Abstract

The study includes to examine traditional house architecture in Mersin in terms of ecological aspects. When Mersin is a harbour town in 19. Century, today it turns a metropole. Technological developments and rapidly growing house structure cause increasing the energy used, consuming natural resources and damaging environment. The ecological architecture is a concept which is developed in order to solve these problems. So environment, ecology and ecological architecture are investigated in this study. Mersin is chosen for the field work. The history of Mersin, geographical position, climate, social-culturel situation and natural resources are explained. The specific documents are formed in order to get the digital and objectives datas from model traditional structures. The study investigates thirty houses in urban conservation areas in terms of ecological aspects. These houses are investigated with the help of the specific documents which are prepared before the study. These specific documents are formed with the references which are related to ecological design criterias. The results are showed with the charts and diagrams. Finally, the study reveals ecological aspects of the traditional house architecture in Mersin and refers to new structure.
