Abstract

An analysis of the historical evolution of the play element as a publicrelations event is undertaken in this study with the aim of shedding light on themeaning of contemporary festival- festivity structure and its basic elements.In the introductory chapter, the aim and context of the study is defined. Adefinition of the play element and its basic characteristics is attempted and anintroduction to concepts such as ritual and festivity ends the chapter.An analysis of these basic concepts comprises the content of the secondchapter. Analyses of rituals, festivities, Adonis and especially Dionysos festivalswith its incitement to freedom, joy and revolt are followed by an analysis of thedevelopment of basic institutions in theatre, music and festivals.The third chapter deals with the developmant of the play element in Turkishsocial history. In the context, beginning with ritual, rite and festivity in ancientAnatolian civilisations, following through festivities in old Turkish tribes and endingwith Ottoman festivities the Turkish social history in the play element is complete.The fourth chapter contains analyses in the function of festivals-festivities in modemTurkish society and an evaluation of this phenomenon from the aspect of publicrelations.The final chapter attempts to evaluate and specily the necessary basicelements in form and content shaped by historical evolution of festivals-festivitieswhich enable a successful public relations event.Keywords Public Relations, Festival, Festivity, Entertainment
