Abstract
Escher’in eserlerinde düzlemsel simetri gruplarının kullanımı ele alınmaktadır.
Although, mathematics and art may seem like two distant fields of study at the first glance, they are both products of man’s struggle to undertand and express nature. Mathematics, elegantly abstracts and interperets nature through the use of symbols, numbers and equations, whereas art does the same through the use of paintings, sculptures and compositions. Mauirts Cornelis Escher has been considered as an icon for mathematicians and print artists alike for his mathematically inspired artworks which focused on divisions of planes with symmetry operations and impossible spaces. This paper reviews the use of plane symmetry groups in Escher’s works.
