Fine Motor Function in Breast Cancer: Special Focus on Sensation
(Springer Nature, 2025) AKEL, BURCU SEMİN; EVRENDİLEK, HALENUR; HOŞBAY, ZEYNEP
After cancer treatment, women with breast cancer often experience immediate impairment in fine motor function. This can be due to chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), muscle weakness or protective posture, lymphedema, fatigue, and stress. The loss of hand dexterity and sensory dysfunction can significantly influence the ability of cancer patients and survivors to function at work and at home. Unfortunately, this adverse effect in daily life may generally be overlooked while focusing on primary treatment for survival. Assessing somatosensory and fine motor skills is crucial for planning early intervention in the early stages of breast cancer. Education, including self-management strategies, exercise, and sensorimotor training, are the main methods for addressing sensory disturbances and fine motor skill impairment. Although the benefits of these methods are acknowledged, the strongest evidence is found only for physical exercise. Further research is needed to identify the most effective exercise modalities, optimal timing, and duration of interventions.

Kaizen and 5S Application from Lean Production Techniques Against Waste and Loss of Time in Production and Office Areas in a Food Business
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2025) ÇELEBİ, HASAN HÜSEYİN; YURT, UMUT CAN; Telli, Büşra
The understanding of competition in businesses has become different as time passes. Lean philosophy is an inevitable approach to reduce cost, minimize downtime and shorten the process. In the most basic sense, lean philosophy is a culture that aims to improve issues such as order, order and speed in order to prevent waste, excessive workload, unbalanced workload, and loss of time. In this approach to improve processes, 5S is a frequently used technique. This technique has 5 steps. These steps are: sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain. The biggest supporter of the application of this technique is the Kaizen method. Kaizen is a term that means change for the better. The factory we discussed in our study in Istanbul is a factory established to provide quality, healthy and affordable bread to the people of Istanbul. A lean philosophy is tried to be adopted in this factory, which continues to increase product quality by keeping costs low and keeping up with the developing technology and digitalizing world order. In our study, it is aimed to apply 5S and kaizen in order to reduce costs, alleviate the workload and save time in both production lines and offices in a food factory that produces bakery products within the borders of Istanbul. In our study, firstly, the places that were deemed inappropriate within the scope of 5S were identified and photographed together with Gemba walks and added to the Kaizen method file before and after. Then, by cooperating with the technical unit of the company and eliminating the nonconformities determined within the scope of 5S, it was determined how much profit these developments have achieved for the company.
Fall Risk and Avoidance Behavior Due to Fear of Falling in Elderly Nursing Home Residents
(Rzeszow University Press, 2025) Türen, Sevda; ÖZÇALIK, CENNET KARA; YILDIZ, GÜLİŞAN; TEKİR, MERYEM İREM
Introduction and aim. Falls in the elderly affect their daily activities, causing a decrease in their quality of life and may even lead to death. This study aims to examine the risk of falling and the relationship between fear of falling and avoidance behaviors in elderly nursing home residents. Material and methods. Data were obtained using the “Fall Risk Assessment Scale (FRAS)” and the “Fear of Falling Avoidance Behavior Questionnaire (FFABQ)”. Results. The average age of the participants was 70.70±5.23 years. Total mean scores of FRAS and FFABQ were significantly higher in participants who could partially meet their daily needs on their own, had chronic diseases, used continuous medication, had problems with walking or balance, had vision or hearing problems, used walking aids, had fear of falling, and had experienced falls in the last three months. It was found that their average was significantly higher. It was determined that there was a strong and significant positive relationship between the FRAS and FFABQ total score averages. Conclusion. It was determined that elderly residents of nursing homes have a high risk of falling and that increased risk is associated with an increase in avoidance behaviors due to fear of falling.
