Abstract

There exists the space concept on the common point of the interaction between architecture and cinema. Space of the city is one of the important components that support the relationship between cinema and architecture. Main purpose of this thesis is the investigation of the recent epoch Turkish Cinema via urban images. In this context, the representation of Istanbul is being assessed by the theory of Kevin Lynch?s point of view that concerning urban perception. In this study, the interaction between architecture and cinema is discussed via urban image and there has given a handle for the application of Istanbul urban image on the cinema. The applications of architectural places as cinematic places are handled via particular movies of different directors that mentions about cities. In this study, on the basis of Kevin Lynch?s urban theory; the narration structure of movies and place relations are examined within the framework of connections, paths, nodes, districts, edges and landmarks. Literature research is done on the reflection of Istanbul urban places over the movies and the cinematic applications of architectural images are pointed out. The assessments are done according to the datas that obtained from the movie analysis. The determinations that obtained during the investigation of cinematic applications of urban images are shown as tables in the appendix. The consistency of vision usage, place usage style, urban image tables are all included in detail. The stylistic and contextual discussions that based on place are included in the conclusion.
