Çağdaş Sanat Yapıtlarında Kültürel Kimlik

Abstract

In this study, by beginning with the concept of ?cultural identity?, it was aimed to analyse the reflections of local- global synthesis and contradiction on ?culture and ?cultural identity? specificly in Turkey?s contemporary art in relation to globalisation. The method was put across firstly by analyzing the main concepts of the thesis such as culture, identity, cultural identiy, globalisation, multiculturality and contemporary art. Afterwards, by examining social effets of globalization identity politics and its reflections on Turkey?s contemporay art practice after 1990?s was investigated with the induction method. Primarily concepts of culture, identity, cultural identity and multiculturality was discussed and then, the main characteristics of contemporary art was analysed with the given examples of contemporary artwork. Afterwards, the beginning of contemporary art practice in Turkey was put across in relation to social progress. It was questioned that if contemporary artpractice in Turkey after 1990?s were effected from the global identity politcs or not. It was also questioned that if any criterias for a global contemporary artwork exist so that the artist could take part in the international art market and the possibility of monotonousness of these artworks. It was aimed to analyze the existence of identity and cultural identiy concepts in the contemporary artworks of Turkey. Examples of artwork were choosed specificly from the artists such as Gülsün Karamustafa, Kutluğ Ataman, Şener Özmen and Hale Tenger who focus on culture, identity, cultural identity ,cultural codes and collective memory concepts . By the sampling method, the analysis of the main concepts were made in these chosen artworks.
