Abstract

The purpose of interior architecture education is to equip students with the competency to explore facilities and limits of an existing or intended structure to transform knowledge into space design. Along with the professional competency, the education also aims to train interior architects who have the sense of responsibility and ethical values. Such an education environment requires mutual communication of teacher and learner, the fact that they are open to multi-dimensional development and refresh themselves constantly. Given these requirements, informal environments which offer flexible and creative areas based on experience are of importance to the discipline of internal architecture. Informal environments open current issues in interior architecture to discussion with the environment of experience they offer. These environments involve important information on expectations in interior architecture, prominent phenomena in education, current matters of a given period and studies regarding the profession. With their scopes, informal environments create an area which bring professional stakeholders of interior architecture and have the characteristics of documentation about the history of interior architecture. Historical background of informal environments directly related to interior architecture is read. Therefore, what date of these activities say about the structuring of the profession and education, what they involve about academic-student communication and what concepts come to the forefront in these activities are addressed. The outputs of the research contribute to the historiography of interior architecture and also provide a guidance forfuture activities. Consequently, a record of historical construction of educational and professional field of interior architecture is kept in terms of informal environments.
