Abstract

In light of the accelerating global shift towards sustainable transportation systems, there is an urgent need for a comprehensive comparative study of various vehicle types in emerging markets. This study provides a thorough analysis of the performance of electric vehicles (EV), hybrid vehicles (HEV), and conventional vehicles (FF) in Jordan and Turkiye, using the AHP and ANP multi-criteria decision analysis methodologies. The study aims to assess consumer preferences, compare market performance in the two countries, analyze the differences between the results of applying the two analytical methods, and identify the critical factors influencing the choice process. The study relied on designing specialized questionnaires according to the AHP and ANP methodologies, with data collected from automotive sector experts in both countries. SuperDecision software was used to analyze the data and evaluate five main criteria, including current market size and share, cost, marketing, features, and other criteria, taking into account the sub-criteria associated with each. The analysis included a comparison of three main alternatives (EV, HEV, FF) in the Jordanian and Turkish contexts. This study provides a methodological framework that can be applied to other markets, while taking into account the local characteristics of each market when determining the criteria of importance. It also provides valuable insights for researchers in the field of decision analysis, manufacturers in developing marketing strategies, and policymakers in designing incentives to support the transition to sustainable transportation.
