Ergenlerde Sosyal Görünüş Kaygısı ile Öznel İyi Oluş Arasındaki İlişkide Sosyal ve Duygusal Öz Yeterliğin Aracı Rolü

Abstract

This study aims to examine the mediating role of social and emotional self-efficacy in the relationship between social appearance anxiety and subjective well-being in adolescents. In addition, the study examines whether gender has a moderator role in the relationship between social appearance anxiety and subjective well-being. The design of the study is based on the correlational survey model. The sample of the study consisted of 357 high school students continuing their education in a high school in Istanbul in the 2019-2020 academic year. The age range of the students participating in the study was found to be 13-18. 180 (50.4%) of the students were female and 177 (49.6%) of them were male. Personal Information Form, Social Appearance Anxiety Scale, Self-Efficacy Scale for Children, and Adolescent Subjective Well-being Scale were used as data collection tools in the study. The data were analyzed using Descriptive Statistics, Pearson Correlation Analysis, and Bootstrap Method. The findings obtained as a result of the analysis were tested at p< .05 significance level. According to the research findings, social appearance anxiety had a negative relationship with social-emotional self-efficacy and subjective wellbeing. There was a positive and significant relationship between self-efficacy perception and subjective wellbeing. As a result of the mediation analysis, it was determined that social-emotional self-efficacy had a mediator role in the relationship between social appearance anxiety and subjective well-being. As a result of the moderation analysis, it was concluded that gender had no moderator role in the relationship between social appearance anxiety and subjective well-being.
