Publication Open Access Collaboration of Architects and Engineers in Structural System Configuration Through The IDECAD Platform A Case Study(2012) TÜRKYILMAZ, EMRAH; YAZICI, GÖKHAN; 113480; 140840This paper reports the findings of a multidisciplinary design workshop with the aim of improving the collaboration between architects and civil engineers in choosing an appropriate structural system configuration for a design project. The workshop was conducted with the participation of undergraduate students of architecture and civil engineering at the Istanbul Kultur University who were asked to work together in selecting an appropriate structural system configuration of a simple reinforced concrete residential dwelling. The participants were asked to experiment with various design options and to evaluate the implications of their design decisions on the overall cost and constructability of the design project. IdeCAD Structural for structural design and IdeCAD Architectural for architectural design, were selected as the software for design collaboration due to the ease of exchanging information, the ability of checking designs according to Turkish design codes and the similarities in the user interfaces.Publication Metadata only Güncel BIM Uygulamaları(2017) TÜRKYILMAZ, EMRAH; 113480Publication Metadata only A BIM Implementation Story(2015) TÜRKYILMAZ, EMRAH; 113480Publication Metadata only Are We Ready For BIM(2014) TÜRKYILMAZ, EMRAH; 113480Publication Open Access The Design of A Productive Landscape Barcelona Tres Turons Park A Case Study(2009) Pellitero, Ana Moya; Canbay Türkyılmaz, Çiğdem; Eliziario, Josue Silva; TÜRKYILMAZ, EMRAH; 113480; 173784Urban parks can be the future green engines of a self-sufficient urban environment. They may become a productive landscape that merges nature, with a resource-efficient milieu, and a platform for ecological awareness and education. This agro-ecosystem sustains space and the surrounded neighborhoods, with community supported gardening and urban farming, integrating the production of renewable energies, natural water purification and waste management. Tres Turons Park is a strategic green space in the northern part of the city of Barcelona, Spain. The Modification of the Metropolitan Master Plan, approved in January 2009, consolidates the space for an urban public park. This paper evaluates how to design a community self-organized productive landscape in Tres Turons Park, presenting the design methodology and analyzing the results of the workshop taken place at the Faculty of Architecture of Barcelona (UPC), on July 2009, with an international team of students, and professional guests.Publication Metadata only Bilgilenme Düzeyinin Algılama Üzerindeki Etkilerinin İrdelenmesi(2011) Canbay Türkyılmaz, Çiğdem; TERLEMEZ, ALİ KEMAL; GÜZELCİ, ORKAN ZEYNEL; TÜRKYILMAZ, EMRAH; 113480; 173784; 187152; 186429Publication Metadata only A New Approach on the Transformation of Cultural Landscapes Case of Istanbul(2011) Canbay Türkyılmaz, Çiğdem; Pellitero, Ana Moya; Eliziario, Josue Silva; TÜRKYILMAZ, EMRAH; 173784; 113480Publication Metadata only BIM Implementation for Integrated Interior Design Solutions(2017) TÜRKYILMAZ, EMRAH; 113480Publication Metadata only Participatory Design Through BIM(2019-07-03) Kızılkan, Berkay; TÜRKYILMAZ, EMRAH; 113480Today, the projects characterize by collaboration between multidisciplinary parties and are highly dependent on the communication between them. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the use of the computer-generated model to simulate the planning, design, construction, and operation of a facility; a technology that allows users to create a visual simulation of a project with a digital prototype of a building prior to construction. The computational model of BIM forms an environment that serving the various disciplines of the design process to work together. The concept of BIM aims to minimize concerns arising from the time, cost and quality of the changes in the design, and implementation of construction projects in the architecture, engineering and construction sector. Within the framework of this objective, all information in the project process should manage correctly to increase collaboration. Participatory design, known in architecture since the 70s, is also used in the urban design and landscape design as a way of more appropriate environments for users. One of the major characteristics of participatory design is that users are actively involved in the design and construction process. The most problematic part of the participatory design is the difficulty of understanding abstract planning data by users. By incorporating the user through the design process through BIM, the users can more involve in the design decision process to achieve better satisfaction. The identification of user-specific attributes can facilitate, and the creation of spatial comfort conditions can accelerate with participatory design through BIM. Because of this relationship, while the spatial comfort and quality of life of increases, it is possible to save cost in the design process. This study aims to investigate the participatory design by using BIM concept and how to increase the quality of life through BIM during the design and usage process. For this purpose, user participation and BIM relationship examined through examples from the world. This paper describes a BIM framework which enables designers to involve users by using information technology. It demonstrates that participatory design approach combined with BIM can make a significant contribution towards an increase in performance in building and in the quality of life.Publication Open Access A proposal for energy efficient design: an IFC based design decision system and its application(WIT Press, 2014) TÜRKYILMAZ, EMRAH; 113480Today, a large part of the total energy consumed in buildings is used to provide adequate indoor air quality and indoor lighting. The dirt and noise of urban environments encourage keeping buildings closed tight, with a resultant reliance on mechanical systems. Despite tightening the building envelope to decrease energy consumption, the building itself becomes more dependent on mechanical systems and monitors to assure adequate heat, ventilation and air-conditioning. The need, amount and the timing of energy efficient air conditioning are the subjects of studies, which include how to provide efficient air conditioning to control indoor air quality. Within this context, the aim of the research is to develop a design decision system to provide sufficient and consistent knowledge on air-conditioning for the design process. Today, there are only a few systems serving the same aim with a very limited capacity. These systems are not designed to be either cost-effective or industrial applicable. Air-conditioning and air circulation analysis of spaces are made by CFD (Computer Fluid Dynamics) software. In order to use air-conditioning and air circulation analysis in design process efficiently, CFD analysis software and BIM (Building Information Modelling) software should work together. Three steps are followed to develop the proposed system. First, what the results of air circulation analysis used by architects is composed of. Second, an interface is designed to define air circulation analysis in BIM software. Third, additional properties set to Industry Foundation Classes (IFCs) standard to keep analysis data on BIM model is prepared. A computer laboratory and a conference room are chosen to test the developed system. The evaluation of preliminary test results are shown that the developed system produces easily understandable graphic analysis for architects. While using the proposed system, air conditioning is no longer a very general characteristic of a design process but it is a real design feature forming the overall design process.
