Publication A Pandemic Experience of Remote Working: Reflections on Emotions(Peterlang, 2021) Peksatıcı Yanıkoğlu, Özge; Ergun, Hande Sinem; Samur Teraman; Seray Begüm; 223341; 173087; 31285Covid-19 pandemic employs spectacular and specific characteristics that are unique only to this period. First of all, remote working during Covid-19 is enforced. In other words, it is not a choice but rather an obligation to work remotely. In addition, mobility and socialization are limited under pandemic circumstances. Moreover, companies and employees had to switch remote working suddenly, and therefore they were unprepared for this sudden change (Waizenegger, McKenna, Cai, & Bendz, 2020). Before the pandemic, remote working could have been perceived as a “positive” option that provides more freedom and flexibility to the employees, employers, and scholars in the field. However, Covid-19’s enforced remote working unraveled the efficiencies of our working assumptions and challenged them. In fact, it can be argued that “the meaning of work” has also changed during the pandemic. In order to maintain the “business as usual”, it is on the shoulders of the knowledge workers to quickly adapt to the sudden merge of the living and working environment and the new ways of digital interacting.Publication Garden of Mentoring: Revisiting Mentoring in Entrepreneurial Sense(2016) Teraman, Seray Begüm Samur; Ergun, Hande Sinem; 31285; 173087For many years, mentoring has been used as the influential career development tool in organizations. From a wider perspective, mentoring is perceived as a way of people development by helping individuals to achieve something meaningful in their lives. However, due to proliferation of entrepreneurial initiatives, now it is not only scrutinized from an intra-organizational perspective, but also it is considered a tool for self-employed development. Therefore, new area for cultivation in the garden of mentoring has emerged: Entrepreneurial Mentoring. Although, its multi-faceted development effect for new ventures is accepted, mentoring is not highly discussed topic in entrepreneurship literature to the best of our knowledge (St-Jean and Mathieu, 2015, St-Jean and Audet,2009). Hence, this conceptual study mainly deals with definitional issues, roots of mentoring and how mentoring evolves from career development towards entrepreneurial development perspective. The concern is offering some insights about multiple roles of mentoring, especially for new-start ventures as a supportive mechanism in their entrepreneurial journey.Publication Is Fear of Failure a Psychological Barrier? An Empirical Study on Occupational Choices(2017) Gürbüz, Fatma Gülruh; Ergun, Hande Sinem; Teraman, Seray Begüm SamurIn our age, “success” has been promoted as the ultimate aim and result in life. Failure has been underrated in our society. However, failure is important and necessary. The contradiction of success promoting mentality is that in order to be successful failure is essential. However, we do not come across failure stories as much as success stories. Success is nice and positive, but failure is unpleasant and most of the time is not welcomed by the society and our close relations. Therefore, managing failure is highly important and is not taught or mentioned anywhere. This study tries to show the possible connection between the Fear of Failure (henceforth FoF) and occupational choices by including wide range of career options (e.g. being a social entrepreneur, being an academician, being a paid employee either in a private company or public office, being self-employed/entrepreneur and being not working at all if it is possible). Methodology- Survey method is used as a research instrument and 413 university students accepted to be the part of the study. Multiple regression analyses were performed to test the proposed relationships. Findings- Among them only two models constructed with entrepreneurial intention and not working at all (if it is possible) was found significant. Conclusion-. Alongside different findings of the study, negative connotation attached to the FoF for entrepreneurial intentions are still valid.Publication Mediating Role of Emotional Self-Efficacy Between Emotional Intelligence and Creativity: Empirical Study on University Undergraduates(2016-04) Gürbüz, Fatma Gülruh; Ergun, Hande Sinem; Teraman, Seray Begüm Samur; 31285Today’s world requires a professional working life in which there are individuals equipped with different skills, and using composition of those skills. Data for this study was collected from a sample of 265 students receiving education both from State and Private Universities located in Istanbul. Snowball sampling was applied in order to reach as much students as possible. The data were analyzed by using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 21.0 software. Firstly Factor and Reliability Analyses of all measurement instruments were conducted and their factor structure was revised based on the results. Then hierarchical regression analysis was done in order to test the mediating effects. The results show that, Emotional Self Efficacy mediates the effects of Adaptability on only Creative Potential for students. In other words, individuals who; have problem solving ability, are flexible and realistic can have a potential for being creative. When they have a belief in their capability of perceiving emotions in self and the others, using emotions to facilitate thought, understanding emotions and emotional knowledge in the self and the others and regulating emotions in the self and the others (Mayer, Salovey and Caruso, 2004 cf. Kirk, Schutte and Hine, 2008) effect of adaptable abilities lost its effect in explaining their creative potential.Publication Strateji̇k Planlarin Söylemleri̇: Üni̇versi̇teler Arasindaki̇ Kurumsal Eşbi̇çi̇mselli̇ği̇n Keşfi̇(Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2019) Gürbüz, Fatma Gülruh; Ergun, Hande Sinem; Taşkın, Meral Dülger; TERAMAN, SERAY BEGÜM SAMURÇevresel değişkenler ve beraberinde ortaya çıkan hızlı dönüşüm üniversitelerinekonomik sistemlerdeki geleneksel rolünün değişime uğramasına sebep olmuştur.
