Publication Open Access A comparative study of deep learning techniques in concrete crack detection: Convolutional neural networks and logistic regression(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi / Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü / Endüstri Mühendisliği Ana Bilim Dalı / Mühendislik Yönetimi Bilim Dalı, 2021) Rasul, Azhi Yassin; YÜKSEKTEPE, FADİME ÜNEYİnşaat alanlarında zorlu durumlarla günlük olarak karşılaşılmaktadır. Item Open Access Accuracy Analysis in Medical Device Quality Measurement by Software and New Perspective of Machine Vision System(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2023) HOUSHMANDSHARIFI, NEDA; Murat Taha BilişikThis dissertation investigates the impact of software and machinery on the accuracy of quality measurements for medical products, specifically focusing on key parameters of medical devices. The primary objective is to streamline quality control processes, reducing human errors. To achieve this, we leverage software and artificial intelligence in conjunction with visual inspection machinery. Our study aims to assess the quality of medical products quantitatively by analyzing them as a percentage of the ideal quality. We seek to adapt the existing quality control framework to tailor it to the specific parameters that significantly influence equipment quality. In doing so, we adhere to ISO regulations and associated standards, which guide us in identifying these critical parameters and optimizing the quality control processes for various medical equipment. It is important to note that our goal is not to replace established quality management standards but rather to introduce more efficient processes that can complement these standards. We also evaluate the accuracy of traditional quality control methods in comparison to the accuracy of quality control through visual inspection systems. In this dissertation, we present two case studies as empirical evidence, illustrating the impact of human error on quality control and the effectiveness of the visual inspection system.Publication Open Access Analysis of Ambient Energy Harvesting in Individual and Industrial Environments Using Quantitative Methods(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2023) SHAH, SEHRISH RAZZAQ; Ayşe Tülin AktinAmbient Energy harvesting is a way to reap and grind energy from such source which is producing or converting one form of energy into another, but alongside that energy some of the energy is being lost which in our daily or busy routine no one even notices that something is being wasted. That something is known as our or machines kinetic energy which even we ourselves cannot recognize. That small amount is harvested and then controlled with some specific tools set and magnified to be get used in daily uses instead of those expensive ways which we have adopted from centuries. This case study is focusing on some aspects of how ambient energy harvesting is playing an important role in individual environment as well as which development we can have for industrial sector to cope up with this energy utilization hinge in our way. Also, we have laid a way to make our industrial sector that sufficient that it will start generating the energy on its own and not to rely on conventional and expensive energy, which has grasped the major portion of individual and companies' utility expenses. By the end we will be able to create a future with self-powered homes and industries that will be less polluted and affordable to all the community.Publication Open Access Analyzing the adoption of project management methodologies and tools in the Turkish non-governmental organizations(NGOS) working in Syria humanitarian response(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi / Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü / Endüstri Mühendisliği Ana Bilim Dalı, 2021) Alkhater, Awaad; Ülkü, İlaydaÇeşitli araştırmalar, sivil toplum kuruluşları tarafından uygulanan kalkınma ve insani yardım projelerinin somut olmayan sonuçlar, çok sayıda paydaş ve karmaşık ve riskli ortamlar gibi benzersiz özelliklere sahip olduğunu bulmuştur. The country is considered an important historical ally of the European Union in terms of economic and military collaboration. The bilateral relations have been positively assessed until the occurrence of the arab spring in the wake of the year 2010, the period during which a third element emerged as an additional incentive for more strategic approximation. This thesis investigates the impact of the European Union (EU) on the development of democracy in Tunisia during the period from 2011 to 2022. The central research question seeks to elucidate the extent to which the EU's external aid has benefitted Tunisian democracy while shedding light on the responsiveness of the 2019 regime to the European implementation of the domestic democratic framework. To answer this question, In addition, the researcher conducted interviews with diplomats and state personnel from Tunisia who have vested work and time in both the pre-revolution and post-revolution periods. The study contends that the EU sought to bring a modernizing parameter to Tunisia by providing financial, political, and technical aid that sought to install solid democracy in the country. However, the researcher found that the EU's efforts were originally insufficient and non-conforming the initial rhetoric of EU officials. The study also argues that the Tunisian democratic example has been undermined by the events of July 25, 2021, which obliged the country to regress back into one-man rule primarily spearheaded by the freezing of the work of the national assembly due to corruption and economic issues that preceded it caused mainly by the COVID-19 pandemicItem Open Access An Assessment of the Socio-Economic Impact of Boko Haram Insurgency in the Northeast of Nigeria(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2022) BELLO, HIDAYA SHEHU; Muzaffer ŞenelUsing the frustration-aggression theory, this research could assess the socioeconomic impact of the Boko Haram Insurgency in the North East of Nigeria. This research was able to assess the find out that the Boko Haram insurgency has caused unbearable economic hardships in the North Eastern part of the country, and in extension in most parts of Nigeria. This research finds out that illiteracy/ignorance, unemployment, porous borders, arms proliferation, etc. have been the root causes of the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria; its aftermath is underdevelopment, poverty, fear, drug abuse, more IDPs, etc. The importance of this research is that it will help further researchers who want to research similar topics. This research emphasizes that adequate reforms, policies and regulations have to be unified from the three tiers of Federal, State and Local governments of Nigeria; border security will have to be strengthened, and there should be qualified control of the inflow of arms into the country, educating the civilians on self-defence should also take as a focal point.Item Open Access Behavior of Irregular RC Structures Subjected to Horizontal and Vertical Seismic Excitations(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2021) AHMED, SEAD MOHAMED; Erdal CoşkunThe past earthquakes show that the structures are not designed well to prevent the effect of earthquakes. Irregular structures have become very popular, and they carry a risk of failure during strong ground motions. The aim of this study is to evaluate the behavior of vertical irregular structures when subjected to both components (horizontal and vertical) of seismic excitations. Stiffness and mass irregularities are considered throughout the study. In this study, Four 2D models with 6-storey each were chosen to represent this problem. All the models were analyzed insides SAP2000 V21 software and designed according to ASCE 7-16 seismic code. Analyses were performed using nonlinear time history analysis using Newmark's average method. However, five different ground motions for both components in the near field region were obtained from the PEER website and scaled inside the seismomatch 2020 program. All the frame models are analyzed under two different loading cases: 1) Horizontal Only and 2) Horizontal plus Vertical. The structure's response in the form of maximum inter-story drifts, the axial force of column, joint acceleration, and mass participation ratio are compared under two loading conditions.Item Open Access Black Hole or Living Hall: Reconstructing Female Sexuality, Deconstructing Male Anxiety(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2022) ÖMÜR, GİZEM SERDAR; Gillian M. E. AlbanIn this study, the main concern is to apply a reconstructive approach to reshape the image of female genitalia by restoring a primordial representation of women. To achieve this, I delve into multiple disciplines once amalgamated by androcentric forces that debilitated women, with an intent of reverting the same perception for the benefit of women by activating such primordial images of women. Instead of the priority given to death and destruction in defining and contemplating the meaning of life, as observed in the present phallocentric systems, this study provides a new understanding arising from female genitals from which life emerges and to which all living beings yearn to return as nostalgia and 'a belated wish' as Freud says. Concentrating on the representation of female sexuality in American cartoonist Charles Burns' graphic novel Black Hole, British writer Angela Carter's The Passion of New Eve and German writer Patrick Süskind's Perfume, this M.A. thesis employs several contemporary and interdisciplinary theories and methodologies to decode and recode the symbols, images, figures and metaphors attributed to women in cultural history. In this regard, placing the aforementioned literary works in their specific contexts and taking them under scrutiny in their attempt to cross the borders that western logocentrism dictates, this study suggests a thorough analysis of the distaff side, the underwritten part of history. This analysis is essential in that it aims to revive the repressed image of a Goddess figure, who 'creates the world by dancing', and asks for recognition by way of substitutions as they appear in the form of 'objet petit a', 'uncanny', 'abject', 'grotesque'; euphemistically called 'black hole' and 'black continent'. The sum of such concepts connotes monstrous, a non-human other in patriarchal discourse. However, such a view also assigns women to an in- between state of animate/inanimate, animal/human, female/male, defying the western binarised philosophy towards a nonbinary understanding. Therefore, this study concludes that the monstrosity attached to the female reproductive body through various ways, alongside the major anxiety that has governed the male economy for thousands of years, arises from a deathly attraction, as displayed by the keen analysis of the given three literary texts in the light of Irigaray's multiplicity and fluidity, fed by Cixous's aphorisms, supported by Kristeva's 'chora' and Ettinger's 'matrixial', manifested in Eisler's prehistoric Goddess figurines and Creed's 'monstrous feminine'.Publication Open Access Case Study of the Impact of Using Artificial Intelligence With Cloud Computing in Smart Factory Management(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2022) ALDARABSEH, ESRAA AL; İbrahim Ethem TarhanBy employing artificial intelligence within the work of the cloud, the promised future is to create self-lead computers. This study examines the history of Tunisian activism from colonial rule to the present day, with a particular emphasis on the post-revolution period. Drawing on existing literature and theory, the study identifies the emergence of new forms of digital activism and transnational networks and the fragmentation of social movements into multiple competing organizations as key features of post-revolutionary Tunisian activism. Building on this analysis, the study develops a specific hypothesis that the Tunisian state's response to post-revolutionary Tunisian activism, including co-optation and repression, has created significant challenges for social movements in sustaining mobilization and achieving substantive social and political change. This hypothesis is tested by examining the state's response to activist mobilization, including its use of media and surveillance, as well as analyzing the challenges faced by social movements, such as generational divides and the difficulties of coordinating across organizations. The study concludes by reflecting on the implications of these findings for the future of Tunisian activism and the broader implications for social movements in the Middle East and North Africa. Ultimately, this thesis contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexities of post-revolutionary politics in Tunisia and the challenges activists face to build a more just and democratic society.Item Open Access The Challenges of the French Secularism on the Lives of Muslim Women(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2023) FARAH, HAMDA ABDOU; Nazlı Çağın BilgiliThis thesis explores the challenges encountered by Muslim women in France due to secularism, a key principle of French society. Resistance of the oppressed bodies of female characters is scrutinized through a comparative analysis. Postcolonial and black feminist/womanist points of view along with a feminist understanding of the so-called subordination of black female bodies are applied in a deconstructive method. The colonial and patriarchal ideologies are put under scrutiny to show that these two ideologies resemble each other in terms of their hegemonic structures highlighting the dichotomized thinking inherent in the western understanding which leads to the so-called subordination of black women. Logocentrism of the colonial system and phallocentrism of the black patriarchal perspective locating black women in the "inferior other" position of the binarized thinking is demystified. For this end, Michel Foucault's idea of power and knowledge; remarks of bell hooks, Angela Davis and Audre Lorde on the state of black female bodies in the sexist-racist systems along with Morrison's concept of Africanism are referred to deconstruct the binarized thinking. Additionally, the womanist discourse of Toni Morrison and Alice Walker; and feminist perspectives of Hélène Cixous and Luce Irigaray's theories of repression of the female body are visited to undo the discourse of the power. This study problematizes the colonizing mentality prevailing in American society through the analysis of Toni Morrison's Beloved and shows that the same colonizing manner is mirrored in the fictional Olinkan tribe in Alice Walker's Possessing the Secret of Joy. The female characters in both novels carry the traces of the brutal treatment on their bodies but strike the reader as defying characters to the manipulations of the oppressive systems through resorting to violence as a means of resistance, thereby moving from the state of passivity to activity by taking control of their lives.Publication Open Access A Comparative Analysis of Critical Chain and Critical Path Project Management Methods(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2022) ALNEHLAWI, SAAD; Zeynep GerginPM is practically all procedures that help to reduce the waste of time and resources while most of the planned projects were using much more than what was assigned. These procedures include planning, managing, and monitoring processes of the project from its start to its end, covering the team management, cost optimization, activities scheduling, evaluating, and reporting. Two of the most commonly-used project scheduling methods are the Critical Path Method (CPM) and Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM). This thesis is presenting a comparison between CPM and CCPM showing the pros and cons of both methods when dealing with resource-depending projects. It shows the new features that can be achieved using CCPM, and the reasons that led to its use this new scheduling approach. This study also illustrates the application of both of the techniques in a real case study for an agricultural investment company, to explain how much CCPM can be more reliable and efficient in terms of time-saving and achieving the objectives of this kind of project. It is concluded that CCPM is a more suitable project management planning methodology to apply to this kind of project than CPM.Publication Open Access Comparative analysis of health and safety management implementations in construction projects based on industry standards applications: Case studies of Turkey and Afghanistan(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi / Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü / Endüstri Mühendisliği Ana Bilim Dalı / Mühendislik Yönetimi Bilim Dalı, 2020) Azhar, Masihullah; Gergin, Zeynepİnşaat sektöründe, sağlık ve güvenlik standartlarının ve yönetmeliklerinin geliştirilmesi, faaliyetlerin doğası ve geçmişte yaşanan yüksek olay ve ölüm oranları nedeniyle ortaya çıkan yüksek riskler sonucunda ortaya çıkan en büyük başarılardan biridir. Accordingly, to achieve these aims assets of 32 different structures vary considering factors such as structural type, height, location of the structure, and loading scenarios. As this study show that Concrete structures emitted 23% more CO2 than steel buildings. While the results reveal that constructing a concrete building in an A class earthquake area creates 25% higher CO2 emissions than building in a non-seismic region.Item Open Access The Contribution of IHH's Humanitarian Activities in the South and Southeast Asia to Turkiye's Foreign Policy(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2023) REEZA, AQMAL AHSAN MOHAMED; Hazal Papuççular KutluThis thesis claims that International non-governmental organizations can play a major role in having an impact in the foreign relationship of the States concerned, by having IHH's example over the state of Turkiye. NGOs began to gain high prominence in the dynamic world order that evolved especially after the end of Cold War in the late nineties. Although they don't possess powers like military power those of the states nor economic power those of the multinational companies, NGOs are powerful and influential themselves in their nature; with their uniquely developed strategies that help them to gain access to all the places and reach all kinds of communities around the world without having to resist nor resort to the use of force. These characteristics make them have an impact over the international relationship of the states. This thesis is prepared by using the sources from the field work of IHH, by genuine examples of how it has acted not only as an aid provider but also as humanitarian advocate at times and how its actions have influenced the improvement of foreign relationship of the state of Turkiye thus paving way to the finding of their positive impact over the image and soft power of the Country.Publication Open Access Customer relationship management's role in boosting client's loyalty(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi / Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü / Endüstri Mühendisliği Ana Bilim Dalı / Mühendislik Yönetimi Bilim Dalı, 2021) Najjar, Mohamad; Tarhan, İbrahimMüşteri ilişkileri yönetimi (M.İ.Y.), her türlü şirketi yönetmek ve müşteri ile firma arasındaki ilişkiyi yönetmek için teknolojik sistem olarak kullanılmak üzere geliştirilmiş önemli bir akademik yaklaşımıdır. However, unrecognized defects within mobile applications can affect businesses due to negative user experience. To avoid this, defects of applications should be reviewed before releases. The well-known methods for defect prevention include Review and Inspection, Walkthrough, Logging and Documentation, and Root Cause Analysis, as well as employing innovative predictive approaches using machine learning. The benefit of these prediction models is that more testing resources can be allocated to fault-prone modules effectively. This study aims to present a defect prediction model for mobile applications. We applied cross-project and used deep learning algorithms including Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), and Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) to develop a defect prediction model and applied it to Android applications datasets. SMOTE Oversampling technique is used to balance datasets, accuracy metrics such as precision, recall, F1-score, ROC, and AUC to achieve performance, and model results are evaluated with tenfold cross-validation.Publication Open Access Development of an Excel-VBA Based Decision Support System for Network Engineers(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2022) AONI, HUSSEIN; Okay IşıkA router is a hardware component at the heart of any computer network, as it is responsible for connecting a network to other networks in the Internet infrastructure and finding the most efficient way for data packets to reach their destination. Choosing the best router is a critical decision for network engineers because there are so many router brands, brand models, and many criteria that distinguish each router. Due to lack of managerial skills or technical issues, network engineers may choose the wrong router for their network. In this study, a Decision Support System (DSS) based on the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, which is a multi-criteria decision making method, has been developed for the selection of the appropriate router. The DSS is built using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) integrated with Microsoft-Excel. The proposed DSS is a user-friendly XLSM file that can be used on any computer running Microsoft-Excel. The DSS was tested based on four criteria (Cost, Reliability, Efficiency and Port counts) and four brand alternatives (Cisco, Juniper, Huawei and MikroTik). The developed DSS accompanies the decision maker's (DM) comparison process of criteria and the alternative routers according to each criterion, and finally recommends the most suitable router. In addition, if the comparison matrix of DM is inconsistent, the proposed DSS makes minor changes to the original preferences of DM, ensuring a zero inconsistency rate. The proposed method has been tested with data sets published in the literature, and its advantages over other methods to reduce inconsistency have been demonstrated.Item Open Access Earthquake Performance and Cost Comparison of Core Wall and Tunnel Formwork RC High Rise Buildings(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2022) AMINI, MOHAMMAD IBRAHIM; Mustafa CömertThis study investigates the earthquake performance and cost comparison of core wall and tunnel formwork of 30 story high-rise buildings. Floor and roof systems in core wall buildings are designed to carry gravity loads and transfer these loads to the supporting beams, columns, and to footings. Furthermore, they play a key role in distributing earthquake induced loads to the lateral load resisting systems such as inner cores and columns by diaphragm action. And in tunnel formwork buildings the flat slabs are designed to carry gravity loads and directly transfer them to the shear walls and finally transferred them to the footings. This kind of buildings systems resisting earthquake-induced loads with the help of flat slab and shear walls only, without any beams and columns. Core wall building and tunnel formwork building systems are very commonly used as lateral load resisting systems which have shown very good results in past earthquakes. In the present research, the modelling of (G+29) story RC residential high-rise buildings was performed in ETABS software then the data have been transferred to PERFORM-3D analysis software for analysis purposes. Nonlinear dynamic (Timehistory) analysis has been performed, according to (ASCE 7-16) and (ACI-318-19) codes and according to (PEER TBI,2017), and (LATBSDC,2020) guidelines. The results in terms of design base shear, building periods, different mode shapes maximum displacements, drift, drift ratio, moment curvature relationship, and costs of the buildings obtained.
