Publication Assessment of Nutritional Status, Body Composition and Blood Biochemical Parameters of Patients Following Sleeve Gastrectomy: 6 Months Follow Up(Elsevier, 2021) BATAR, NAZLI; Demir, Halime Pulat; Bayram, Hatice MerveBackground and aims: Today, Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) has recently become the most common bariatric procedure among various bariatric surgical procedures due to its advantages. The aim of this study is to investigate nutritional status, body composition and biochemical parameters following SG. Methods: This was a prospective study, the subjects were patients who underwent SG at a special obesity clinic in Istanbul, Turkey, between 01.05.2017 and 01.11.2017. The mean body mass index (BMI) of the participants was 42.15 +/- 4.84 kg/m(2) for men and 41.44 +/- 4.34 kg/m(2) for women, preoperatively. Nutritional status, some anthropometric measurements and blood sampling were taken at each visit. Data were collected and analyzed for the present study at the following periods: pre-operation (pre-op), 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after surgery. Results: A total of 47 SG patients (20 men, 27 women) were evaluated. The mean BMI was 30.23 +/- 3.56 kg/m(2) for men and 30.35 +/- 4.36 kg/m(2) for women after 6 months and the amount of excess weight loss (EWL) increased in the 3 months (p <.001). Mean energy, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B-1, niacin, vitamin B-12, folate, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, phosphorus and iodine were above the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) recommendations. A significant association was found between protein intake and fat free mass loss in both genders after SG at 6 months (p <.05). Conclusion: Nutrition deficiencies are common for patients after SG. The ecological validity of the dataset was ensured by the fact that the data were collected in actual workplace environments. The biosignal data contains measurements of electrodermal activity, blood volume pressure, and cutaneous temperature, among others. High-resolution video recordings were used to capture facial expressions, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of facial cues associated with tension. In order to capture vocal characteristics indicative of tension, speech signals were recorded. The dataset contains samples from both stress-free and stressful work situations, providing a proportionate representation of various stress levels. The dataset is accompanied by extensive metadata and annotations, which facilitate in-depth analysis and interpretation. Design: A descriptive and cross-sectional model was used. Methods: The study was conducted with 234 patients who underwent day surgery in a general surgery clinic of a university hospital. Data were collected using a sociodemographic characteristics form, the Patient Perception of Hospital Experience with Nursing Scale (PPHEN) and the Patient Learning Needs Scale (PLNS). Findings: The PPHEN mean score was 67.99 ± 11.98 and the PLNS total score was 211.15 ± 38.49. The subscales showed that the highest scores were 38.47 ± 6.93 for activities of life, while the lowest score was 20.60 ± 4.23 for feelings related to condition. There was a statistically significant negative correlation in the PPHEN and PLNS subscales in terms of medications, activities of living, treatment, and complications. There was no statistically significant relationship between the demographic data of the patients (age, gender, and educational status). Conclusions: This study demonstrated that patients had high information needs and greater concerns, particularly about "activities of life." Besides, assessment of spastic muscle's active state forces in conditions involving intermuscular mechanical interactions and gait relevant joint positions is lacking. Therefore, the source of flexor forces limiting joint motion remains unclear. The aim was to test the following hypotheses: (i) in both passive and active states, spastic semitendinosus (ST) per se shows its highest forces within gait relevant knee angle (KA) range and (ii) due to intermuscular mechanical interactions, the active state forces elevate. Isometric forces (seven children with CP, GMFCS-II) were measured during surgery over a range of KA from flexion to full extension, at hip angle (HA) = 45 degrees and 20 degrees, in four conditions: (I) passive state, (II) individual stimulation of the ST, simultaneous stimulation of the ST (III) with its synergists, and (IV) also with an antagonist. Gait analyses: intraoperative data for KA = 17-61 degrees (HA = 45 degrees) and KA = 0-33 degrees (HA = 20 degrees) represent the loading response and terminal swing, and mid/terminal stance phases of gait, respectively. Intraoperative tests: Passive forces maximally approximated half of peak force in condition II (HA = 45 degrees). Added muscle activations did increase muscle forces significantly (HA = 45 degrees: on average by 42.0% and 72.5%; HA = 20 degrees: maximally by 131.8% and 123.7%, respectively in conditions III and IV, p < 0.01). In conclusion, intermuscular mechanical interactions yield elevated active state forces, which are well above passive state forces. Consideration of the effects of multicultural influences and societal conditions from a global perspective enriches this multifaceted field. The application of neuroscience tools and techniques to international marketing and consumer behavior is an emerging interdisciplinary field that seeks to understand the cognitive processes, reactions, and selection mechanisms of consumers within the context of branding and sales. The NeuroBioSense dataset was prepared to analyze and classify consumer responses. This dataset includes physiological signals, facial images of the participants while watching the advertisements, and demographic information. The primary objective of the data collection process is to record and analyze the responses of human subjects to these signals during a carefully designed experiment consisting of three distinct phases, each of which features a different form of branding advertisement. Physiological signals were collected with the Empatica e4 wearable sensor device, considering non-invasive body photoplethysmography (PPG), electrodermal activity (EDA), and body temperature sensors. A total of 58 participants, aged between 18 and 70, were divided into three different groups, and data were collected. Advertisements prepared in the categories of cosmetics for 18 participants, food for 20 participants, and cars for 20 participants were watched. On the emotion evaluation scale, 7 different emotion classes are given: Joy, Surprise, anger, disgust, sadness, fear, and neutral. This dataset will help researchers analyse responses, understand and develop emotion classification studies, the relationship between consumers and advertising, and neuromarketing methods.Publication Neurophysiological and Biosignal Data for Investigating Occupational Mental Fatigue: MEFAR Dataset(Elsevier, 2024) Derdiyok, Şeyma; AKBULUT, FATMA PATLAR; Çatal, ÇağatayThe prevalence of mental fatigue is a noteworthy phenomenon that can affect individuals across diverse professions and working routines. This paper provides a comprehensive dataset of physiological signals obtained from 23 participants during their professional work and questionnaires to analyze mental fatigue. The questionnaires included demographic information and Chalder Fatigue Scale scores indicating mental and physical fatigue. Both physiological signal measurements and the Chalder Fatigue Scale were performed in two sessions, morning and evening. The present dataset encompasses diverse physiological signals, including electroencephalogram (EEG), blood volume pulse (BVP), electrodermal activity (EDA), heart rate (HR), skin temperature (TEMP), and 3-axis accelerometer (ACC) data. The NeuroSky MindWave EEG device was used for brain signals, and the Empatica E4 smart wristband was used for other signals. Measurements were carried out on individuals from four different occupational groups, such as academicians, technicians, computer engineers, and kitchen workers. The provision of comprehensive metadata supplements the dataset, thereby promoting inquiries about the neurophysiological concomitants of mental fatigue, autonomic activity patterns, and the repercussions of a cognitive burden on human proficiency in actual workplace settings. The accessibility of the aforementioned dataset serves to facilitate progress in the field of mental fatigue research while also laying the groundwork for the creation of customized fatigue evaluation techniques and interventions in diverse professional domains.Publication Occupational Self-Perception Level Effects on the Development of Kinesiophobia in Individuals With Total Knee Arthroplasty(Elsevier, 2023) Yılmaz, Güleser Güney; AKEL, BURCU SEMİN; SAİTOĞLU, YELİZ SEVİMLİ; Akı, EsraIntroduction: The development of kinesiophobia after Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) has been one of the important issues. However, the early results and the presence of kinesiophobia before surgery have not been adequately investigated. In addition, the effects of factors such as pain perception, postoperative pain level, and demographic characteristics were mentioned. However, occupational factors such as occupational expectations and occupational self-perception level have not been adequately investigated.Methods: Each assessment tool was administered three times: once on the first day of the preoperative period and then again at the third and sixth weeks after the surgery. The assessment tools employed were the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score, Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia, Occupational Self Assessment, and Timed Up and Go test. To analyze the differences in Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia scores, a one-way ANOVA was con-ducted. Subsequently, the patients were categorized into two groups based on their level of kinesiophobia: high and low. Independent sample t-tests were employed to compare continuous and normally distributed data be-tween the two groups, while the Mann-Whitney U test was used for non-normally distributed data. The Pearson correlation coefficient was utilized to assess the relationship between continuous data, whereas the Spearman rank-order correlation was employed for non-normally distributed data. Results: High levels of kinesiophobia were identified in individuals both prior to and following surgery. Signif-icant differences were observed between the high and low kinesiophobia groups in terms of the mean OSA Competency (p < 0.05). However, no statistically significant differences were found between the groups in relation to the other evaluation scores during the follow-up periods. Furthermore, a negative correlation was observed between TSK score and OSA Competence results (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Occupational self-perception levels effect the level of kinesiophobia in individuals with TKA and high rates of kinesiophobia observed before the surgery intensified after the surgery, especially in the early period. It may be necessary to focus more on factors such as individual factors, individuals' values, habits, and beliefs.Publication Transcript profiling of salt tolerant tobacco mutants generated via mutation breeding(Elsevier, 2018-09) Ekşioğlu, Aybüke; Akdaş, Enes Yağız; ÇELİK, ÖZGE; 113987The main aim of the study is to identify the genes differentially, predominantly or specifically expressed in salt tolerant tobacco mutants, improved from Akhisar 97 and İzmir Özbaş varieties via mutation breeding, with respect to unstressed control plants. Seven tobacco mutants which have different salt tolerance capacities were evaluated by Gene Fishing analysis. Under stress conditions differentially expressed 100 reproducible bands were identified (74 of up-regulated and 20 of down-regulated while 6 were unknown). 75 of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were successfully extracted from the gel and sequence analyses were performed. Functional annotation of the DEGs was performed against Blastn by interrogating their sequences. The 65 salt-regulated differentially expressed genes showed similarity with known genes, while 6 of DEGs didn't show any genetic similarities with known genes. DEGs were classified in eleven functional categories involving the abiotic stress response, biotic stress response, energy metabolism, cellular transport, catalitic activity, protein modification, amino acid metabolism and transcription factors. All the mutants were evaluated for their regulatory mechanisms against salt stress. The current data reveal that these six DEGs should be identified by next generation sequencing techniques and functional analysis should be design to understand the role of these six differentially expressed genes of tobacco mutants in further studies to improve new genetic resources.Publication Translation and Validation of the ELPO for Turkish Population: Risk Assessment Scale for the Development of Pressure Injuries Due to Surgical Positioning(Elsevier, 2022) Şengül, Tuğba; GÜL, ASİYE; Yılmaz, Dilek; Gökduman, TuğbaAim of the study: This study was conducted to translate the ELPO risk assessment scale for the development of pressure injuries due to surgical positioning to Turkish and to test its validity and reliability in the Turkish Population. Materials and methods: The data were collected using the patient identification form, the risk assessment scale for the prevention of injuries due to surgical positioning, and the Braden Scale. This scale consisted of a total of seven items, each of which contained five sub-items. It is rated between 1 and 5 in the Likert type. The total score of the scale ranges between 7 and 35. The risk of developing pressure injuries increases in patients as the score increases. Results: A total of 184 patients were included in the study sample. The mean age of the group was 55.96 ± 17.90, and the content validity index was 0.944. The sensitivity of the test was 60%, the specificity was 66%, and the accuracy was 66%. There was a negative, weak, statistically significant correlation between the total scores of the risk assessment scale for the prevention of injuries due to surgical positioning and the Braden scale. The mean total score of the scale was 18.45 ± 2.96 (12-26) and 35.9% (n = 66) of the group were at high risk. Conclusions: The ELPO, which includes the risks specific to patients during surgery, can be used as an assessment scale for the development of pressure injury due to surgical positioning for Turkish population.Publication Wearable Sensor-Based Evaluation of Psychosocial Stress in Patients With Metabolic Syndrome(Elsevier, 2020) AKBULUT, FATMA PATLAR; İkitimur, Barış; Akan, AydınThe prevalence of metabolic disorders has increased rapidly as such they become a major health issue recently. Despite the definition of genetic associations with obesity and cardiovascular diseases, they constitute only a small part of the incidence of disease. Environmental and physiological effects such as stress, behavioral and metabolic disturbances, infections, and nutritional deficiencies have now revealed as contributing factors to develop metabolic diseases. This study presents a multivariate methodology for the modeling of stress on metabolic syndrome (MES) patients. We have developed a supporting system to cope with MES patients' anxiety and stress by means of several biosignals such as ECG, GSR, body temperature, SpO(2), glucose level, and blood pressure that are measured by a wearable device. We employed a neural network model to classify emotions with HRV analysis in the detection of stressor moments. We have accurately recognized the stressful situations using physiological responses to stimuli by utilizing our proposed affective state detection algorithm. We evaluated our system with a dataset of 312 biosignal records from 30 participants and the results showed that our proposed method achieved an average accuracy of 92% and 89% in distinguishing stress level in MES and other groups respectively. Both being the focus of an MES group and others proved to be highly arousing experiences which were significantly reflected in the physiological signal. Exposure to the stress in MES and cardiovascular heart disease patients increases the chronic symptoms. An early stage of comprehensive intervention may reduce the risk of general cardiovascular events in these particular groups. In this context, the use of e-health applications such as our proposed system facilitates these processes.
