Publication Open Access Aspect and Scope of Turkish Consumer Law(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2005) ÖZ, MAYA TURGUT; ed., Cem AkbıyıkPublication Open Access Building Bridges: The Effects of Having an Adult Learner in a Language Class(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2023) BATAKLAR, SİNAN; BAHADIR, AYGÜLThe purpose of the study is to analyse the effects of having an adult learner in a language class. The study was conducted in a university Preparatory Class (EPC) and was carried out with 4 EPC instructors, 5 EPC students and 1 adult learner (AL). The EPC instructors’ ages are between 36-49 and their teaching experiences are from 10 years to 24., the EPC students’ ages are between 19-21 and the adult learner is 42 and has a PhD in education. The research was designed using the convenience and purposive sampling approach. The data was collected using open-ended questions and the phenomenology technique, which is one of the qualitative research methodologies employed. The data was analysed using the qualitative content analysis approach. Based on the data analysis, noteworthy themes regarding having adult learners in a language class were discovered. The following are the themes and sub-themes: ‘challenges in having an adult learner during language learning process’ contains the sub-themes of bias to language learning, dominance of the adult learner in classroom interaction, the theme ‘benefits of having adult learner in a language class’ contains the sub-themes of motivation, raising language learning awareness, adult learner’s being a role model, knowledge transfer, career planning and the theme ‘the effects of having an adult learner in language learning process’ contains transfer of experience, strategy training, lesson planning and material design.Publication Open Access Challenges of COVID-19: Preschool Teachers’ Views and Experiences During the Quarantine(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2022) Güneş, Gökhan; TORAN, MEHMETThe purpose of the study is to analyze the evidence gathered from the preschool teachers’ experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic quarantine. The study was carried out with 11 teachers who have professional experience ranging between 3 to 19 years from private and public preschools. The study was specified according to criterion sampling strategy under the purposeful sampling method. The data gathered via open-ended questions and the phenomenology method, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. The qualitative content analyses technique was applied for analyzing the data. It was reached remarkable themes about the preschool teachers’ pedagogical challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic based on the analysis of data. The themes and their subthemes are as follows: The theme “challenges in the distance education process” contains the sub-themes of children, teachers, and parents, the theme “views about educational policy in new normal” contains the sub-themes of technological infrastructure problems, unpreparedness, and negative attitudes, the theme “expectations for the improvement of distance education” contains the sub-themes of teacher training, effective family involvement activities, and technology-based programs.Publication Open Access A Comparative Study of Consumers Rights to Terminate Contract Turkish Law and Related Provisions in EU Directives(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2004) ÖZ, MAYA TURGUT; İlhan Ulusan; Cem AkbıyıkPublication Open Access Determining the Opinions of Parents with Children with Special Needs on Digital Games(İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi, 2024) DENİZ, RABİA; KILIÇ, FİDAN GÜNEŞ GÜRGÖRWith the development of technology, interest in digital games has increased in children with typical development and children with special needs. Many digital games with different contents are played by children with special needs. The research was carried out with the parents of diagnosed children aged 6-13 years. The aim of the research is to determine the views of parents of children with special needs on digital games. The research was designed with phenomenology (phenomenology), one of the qualitative research methods, and the data were created and analyzed using content analysis. A semi-structured interview form and a questionnaire containing demographic information were used in the research. As a result of the data, codes were created and thanks to them, themes and sub-themes were reached. In the research, digital game theme and sub-themes were reached. In consequence of them, it was obtained that children with special needs mostly prefer war games, their purpose of playing games is entertainment, they mostly prefer mobile phones while playing games, and they play games for at least two hours a day. In addition to the findings that digital games contribute positively to the educational processes, skills and development of children with special needs, there were also findings that digital games have negative effects such as children not being able to spare time for their lessons and spending all their time in digital games.Publication Restricted Haksız Tahrik Kurumu Üzerine Bir İnceleme(Seçkin Yayıncılık, 2019) BIKMAZ, RAİFHaksız Tahrik, failin bir suçu, mağdurun hukuka aykırı eylemlerinin kendisinde doğurduğu öfke ve derin elemin etkisi altındayken işlemesi halinde dikkate alınması icap eden bir Ceza Muhakemesi Hukuku kurumudur. Türk Ceza Hukuku’nda, haksıztahrik bir genel düzenleme olarak kaleme alınmıştır dolayısıyla şartlarının vuku bulduğutüm durumlarda uygulanması (Haksız Tahrik’in uygulanması doğası gereği imkansızolan durumlar hariç olmak üzere) gerekir. Mukayeseli Hukuk penceresinden bakıldığında,bazı hukuk sistemlerinde bir genel düzenleme olarak kaleme alınan haksız tahrikdiğer hukuk sistemlerinde ise özel düzenleme olarak belirli suçlar için düzenlenmiştir.Ancak genel düzenleme olarak düzenlenmediği sistemlerde dahi verilecek makul cezanınbelirlenmesinde dikkate alınması gereken bir durum olduğu Kabul edilmektedir.Bu çalışmamızda, failin bir suçu mağdurun eylemlerinin psikolojik etkisi altındaiken işlemesi; Haksız Tahrik’in bir genel düzenleme olarak düzenlenmesinin gerekliliğive son olarak Haksız Tahrik’in mukayeseli hukuktaki uygulaması inceleme konusu yapılmıştır.Publication Restricted Justifying the European Community as a Technocratic Apparatus?: A Critical Re-Evaluation of the Regulatory Model in a Weberian Light(Seçkin Yayıncılık, 2012) AKKARACA, MELİKE KÖSEThis article discusses changing nature of the Community authority and emerging legitimacy problems in the course of the completion of the single market. The primary aim is to investigate and reveal how TAP affects EFL pre-service teachers’ teaching quality. The study was designed using a qualitative approach and a purposive sampling approach. The data was collected using open-ended questions and was analyzed using the qualitative content analysis approach. Based on the evidence, significant themes regarding the TAP were discovered. The following were the themes: excelling on pedagogical content knowledge and teaching quality, raising awareness, and improving teacher roles, the benefits of being professionally present as a teacher in the classroom, and the enhancement of multitasking. It was concluded that with the responses obtained from the prospective teachers, the themes mentioned create a positive atmosphere for them to sharpen their practical teaching skills in a professional sense.Publication Restricted A Weberian Look at the Roots of European Union: Legitimacy of the European Economic Community as a Legal Authority(Seçkin Yayıncılık, 2012) KÖSE, MELİKE AKKARACA
